i speak for chile where the us dollar is 25% lower than its 2003 peak. considering chile is being favoured by good commodity prices, due to an extraordinary global economic environment, the same applies to brazil and argentina, which are mainly commodity exporters as well.
i was in switzerland last january and the dollar was a bit stronger than anywhere in the euro area, but then it has depreciated against the euro by 25%-30% too, so its quite the same.
picturesque sights u'll get anywhere only different kind, so its ur call now that u have this exchange rate update!

We went to Argentina a year ago and LOVED it. Also went to Uraguay and that was even cheaper (except for Punta del Este), and fun as well in a more laid back way.

In Argentina the food is great (as long as you like wine and steak). Very nice people, amazing natural scenery, good weather, lots to do. Our hotel in Buenos Aires was $30/night and dinner at a very nice restaurant with wine is about $15 per person.

From what people were saying when we were there, Chile is similar to Argentina but a little more expensive. Highly recommend Buenos Aires and the Lake district (Bariloche)!

One thing: South America is BIG - so you might want to get plane tickets from place to place. Luckily tickets are affordable, $50 US one way or so. The buses are also nice and cheap but it can take 20 hours or more to get from one place to another.

In Europe's favor - it has all the great monuments, cities and art that you probably have heard about your whole life. And things are much closer together than in South America.
