my husband and I like to ocasionally take a drink in the evenings on our balcony.
We often leave the glasses outside till the next morning, not having finnished our last drink. I never thought about the fact that the glasses were always empty in the morning but the other day I saw our dog carefully licking the last of the scotch out of the glasses .
He is old with an arthritis hip should I stop him or does that little bit of scotch do him good?
Ps dingoes are very smart the reason I didnt notice earlier is because he was careful not to move the glasses. This has probably been going on for about 1 year.

Hmmm... I would likely seek counseling, seems like the Dingo has a little bit of an alcohol problem. Since he has been doing it for a year, and the only reason you know about it is because you caught him, drinking alone.. A sign of an alcoholic I believe. I have heard that there is nothing worse than a drunk and nasty Dingo.. I would call the vet and ask him what he thinks, see if anything needs to be done..

It will mess up the Dogs Liver.
Maybe faster then it would a Human
that drinks Alcohol.
My Nephews Cocker Spaniel Dog
15 yrs old with Arthritis died last week
on Monday May 21-07.
He walked into my Nephews bedroom,
let out a yelp, and fell to the floor dead.
I gave him a Pet sympathy card.
Ask your Vet. But I know he's in pain. :-(

Is the dog getting grumpy with a hangover the next morning?
If all he's getting is say a couple teaspoons and he's showing no signs of kidney or liver problems check with the vet?
If the drinks are more coke than scotch he may be craving sugar a sign of diabetes?
Possibly its the combo of alcohol and caffeine from the coke combined with the sugar that appeals to him?
If the vet says its doing him no harm well just keep an eye on his urine output to check its not effecting his kidneys or liver?
Just be careful!

Maybe the scotch has a medicinal affect on ur dog, being old ur dog may need a supplement of some kind, try sasha's blend if ur dog has sore joints and mobility probs, I beleive this is a good product. Dont forget sugar not good for dogs.

All joking aside it is definitely NOT good. While i have 3 dogs of my own and one of them has gone as far a purposely knocking over my beer to get some, giving me a good laugh, alcohol is very dangerous for dogs. Humans have to be careful how much we drink and we are much larger than them, it does not take nearly as much alcohol to affect them. In all seriousness you should probably do a google search for "alcohol poisoning in dogs" or "dogs and alcohol. Here are a few sites to start you off....

At this age I doubt that it could hurt him any worse than just plain getting old.
The alcohol content of the drinks probably helps to ease his pain with the arthritis so at this point I don't think it matters one way or another.

Diabetes is usually treated through a combination of diet (low sugar), exercise and medications/insulin. Milder cases can be controlled with just diet an/or exercise while more severe cases require meds or insulin as well.

I have had arthritis now for several years and found something that worked wonders for me, I'm spreading the word out to all those like me who have arthritis and may find some true relief, its a dietary supplement sold overseas called CMO, and here is where I found it, hope this helps.

well it probably isnt good for his doggie liver (more so than humans) but he is old and the scotch probably helps numb the pain in his hip for a lil while
