I've always wanted to show my appreciation for the military by writing, but I never know what to say. Most times they can't write back, so I'm not sure what is appropriate. Any advice?

Thank him/her for their personal sacrifice.
Assure them that they are NOT forgotten, that we at home think about them all the time, that we love & miss them, and wish they were home for their loved ones.

Tell them a couple jokes, send a drawing, or a funny saying, or picture. They mostly just love to GET the mail---it doesn't much matter what it is!

just tell them as though u are writing to a friend and tell them how are things going on in the U.S . say who u are and tell them the truth that this is the first time u have written to a G.I send somethings nice and american things some comics would probably be nice like some batman or superman comics. and be nice to the soldiers. i am sure what ever comes to ur mind and u writed it down on paper means alot than not writing it and mailing it. oh by the way i would have been happy to recieave a letter from anyone when i was in the service. i hope u will write to someone lucky. laters

My husband is currently on his 3rd deployment to iraq. and ANY letters or packages are huge morale booster and very appreciative. i also send packages and letters to men and women i have never met before, and i never expected to get anything back, but i did. they were some of the most heartfelt tear jerkers i have ever read. the amount of appreciation they have for someone acknowledging them. tell them a little about yourself, and thank them for their service. the little things like "God Speed" or "God Bless" also go a long way for them.
some do not get any mail at all, so the fact that a letter has passed been send to them is a blessing in itself for them.
anything is appropriate as long as it is not negative.
Hope that helps.

getting a letter from a total stranger is a good thing ,they may not be able to write back right away ,just tell him/her to keep your head down and come home safe and you know a package of cookies sounds good right now .and if you want to send them some silly string they could use it to find i.e.d,s
along the road.

You could just google, "Write a letter to a soldier over seas."

Don't tell the solider about your personal life or your family.
Tell him that you and your family appreciate what they are doing for the USA. You can mail cookies, candy, Disposable camera and other small items.

My son was in Iraq and has to go back. He told me that getting mail is a treat no matter what. Write what is in your heart and you will do fine. God bless

You tell them how proud you are of them, how much you appreciate them, how much you believe in them. And give them a little prayer. Go to the link above. Send a card and a note.
