find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

The first and best way to burn fat is to modify your current diet. There are three simple ways
you can begin to modify: reduce calories, reduce sodium, and reduce fat. For example, by substituting a glass of
water for a carbonated beverage, you can cut approximately 150 calories or more, depending on how much is consumed.
Even if it were fruit juice instead of water, you would still reduce calories by approximately 50 - 100..
what causes these unwanted gains in weight and bodyfat? There are three possible reasons this can happen:
(1) Eat late at night (2) Exceed your normal caloric intake (3) Lack of exercise or physical activity.
best way to speed up the metabolism is by increasing meal frequency. Instead of eating 2 - 3
meals per day, try eating 4 - 5 small meals per day, or 3 meals and 2 healthy snack meals.

Just regulate your portions and try to eat less meat and carbs and incorporate more fruits and veggies. Just eat things you like that are healthy. And just fyi 140 pounds is pretty healthy for your height.. especially since you are so active. A lot of the weight is probably muscle because muscle weights more than fat. Also you probably have a lot of muscle because of all the protien you eat.

healthy diets that actually work are ones that include carbs- because they're important. eating habits full of fruits and vegetables, with moderate amounts of carbs, with limited meat (use other foods that have protein to insure good protein intake), limited dairy products, and limited fats, along with regular excercise, is seriously the best way to take the weight and get rid of it for good.

burn more calories than you consume on a regular basis.
I have never watched what I eat other than to limit unhealthy artery clogging foods to occasional meals. I exercise at least 30 min each day even if it is just a walk. I rollerblade, swim and hike at least 3 times a week. I am of average weight, not overweight and not a stick.

if you have carbs coming in, beyond what you normally would burn up just breathing, you have to excercise. Your body is like a car with a bad gas tank. When there is too much gas, it will drip out into the back seat. You have to go faster and longer to burn up the gas you have, if you fill up on too much fuel.

count calories! that is the best way to lose weight and is a pretty simple diet as long as you really do count your calories and not just guestimate them. it helps to write them down in a notebook. if you can cut back your calories by 500 calories a day you can lose a pound a week and if you add in exercise you can lose more than that.
good luck!
