I want to know if it is better to buy a Sony Blu-ray dvd player, or should i buy a combo HD and Blu-ray player. Will the combo player work as good as a normal seperate player or is it better to just buy a Blu-ray player?

just buy blu-ray, your not going to get 1080p/24 support with a combo player, and you will with certain blu-ray players (ps3 included), also it would be about half the cost just to buy a blu-ray. what are you buying a combo for, everything on hd dvd will be on blu (batman, matrix, v) before xmas, all you are shelling out an extra few hundred dollars for is a few bad universal flikcs.

Hi,Well it all depends who the winner will be out of the two formats. It looks very promising for Blu-ray at this stage to become the next generation DVD format. But the war still goes on.As to your question it is impossible to tell the differences without listening to the two players .The HD DVD Blu-ray player is really two formats in the one chassis. So the Blu-ray circuitry should be similar to the dedicated Blu-ray player but there is no way to be certain.

All the DVD players we have been using since the beginning
do not sound exactly the same. There are differences in quality and the high end models can sound a lot better than the cheap ones sold at discount stores etc.

If you feel like so many others that Blu-ray will be the winner then the Sony is your best bet. However if you are not sure the two format player might be safer to buy.
Hope this helps you a bit.
Cheers

The last time I checked, VHS is still outselling HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.

The winner will be determined by who produces the cheapest players. So far that is HD-DVD at $299; about the same price as a high-end (to most people) DVD player.

Another factor is the adult film industry. Sex sells, and there are hundreds of thousands of pervs out there. The last I read, they were not liking Blu-Ray due to the high manufacturing and licensing costs.

Or, you can always wait and just steal them online as both of them are already being pirated. Just hook your PC up to your TV.

Reviews of $1,100 LG HD-DVD/Blu-Ray player are mixed. You might be better off getting separate players - for about the same money you can have both units.
