Here is an email from my father.. I have also had some of the same questions, and he is a firm beleiver in being saved. Keep in mind. In the end. The faith you believe in is just that "faith" (a little ironic) . You have to make up your mind whether you are going to just blindly beleive it or not. No matter what religion you choose, you can always shoot bullet holes through it.. Real faith is blind faith. I know it can be hard to swallow, I have researched many different religions. But in the end I just had to make a decision and stop questioning and just beleive and have faith!
Here is the email from my father:

Since you asked about Salvation I just want to give you that prayer again. It can be said anytime, you don't have to be in Chruch and you don't have to make a public spectacle. God sees you day and night. He know you every thought. If you know someone that needs to be Saved give them this prayer they can say it anytime and God promises to do His part and will save them. The only prequisite is that they understand what they praying and that they are sincere.

Dear Lord,

I confess that I am a sinner and that I need to be Saved. I beleive that Jesus died on the cross to pay my sin debt. Forgive my sins, come into my heart, and save my soul.

Amen.

My, my, my, Now listen. You probably have more spirituality than he has religion. You are doing just fine. I was almost an atheist once and a priest told me to pursue my doubts. Why dear, I still question it all. That does not hurt to ask questions, that is how you learn to believe 100 percent. Some are too dumb to realize that and some are led like blind sheep. I will say that in order to know God and believe, you have to give him the benefit of the doubt and trust as a child would. Just like you did Santa Claus, without a doubt. Just allow him to be real for you and you will have things happen in your life that will prove to you he is real. I have studied, questioned and searched for God for 39 years. The more I searched the greater my faith became. Everyone has to have their own relationship with God and I'm sorry for the criticism of your husband. He was only trying to help you in his way. But don't become discouraged. Jesus said, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened. There are answers but you have to be dedicated to searching for them. When the student is ready, the master appears. Give yourself time but don't give up. you are on the right path, just stay on it. Seek first the kingdom of God and his Righteous path and all else will be added unto you. If you have questions, contact me and i'll give you the answers I have found. This does not make them right. Just pieces to my puzzel that may fit yours.

The way to be saved is to follow the original teachings of Lord Jesus whos name was actually Yesuah. You can do that if you read his original teachings before King Constantine changed so many things in the bible. Their are many truth in the bible but much has been taken out. for info google gospelofthenazirenes.com The original New Testament. It has historical documentation of its authenticity. I follow Jesus not the ancient Roman Governments version. That's really the only way to be saved and Go and sin no more." but there are things like eating animals which are a sin that king Constantine changed because he was a big meat eater and would have molten lead pored down the throats of those who proclaimed Vegetarianism (such as his own wife) The truth will set you free.

You don't have to go to church to learn more about God. Read your bible. There are good bibles that explain things in modern language with little foot notes elaborating on things you may not completely understand. When you pray, ask God to reveal himself for you. He is so powerful. He will make a way for you to get a satisfying answer to your questions. But remember, to be saved, you have to accept Jesus Christ as your personal saviour. You don't have to have all the answers to go that. Just make the decision to believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins and will always be there to help you find your answers.

No ones faith is total or 100 percent or absolute. If this were so, the it would not be true faith. Faith is believing in something when there is no way totally verify it. You have to have some doubt to have faith. You have faith that your best friend will always be honest with you. You have faith that your martial partner will always be there for you. But you cannot prove that these things will always be so. You just have fait that they will and you hope that they will happen. Everyone has questions and doubts. That is part of the journey in a life that God gave you - a life with freedom to think for yourself. I used to just believe and seldom question things. Then, later in life, I went through all sorts of transformative experiences that raised much doubt, but in the long run it strengthened my faith in Christ.

Does anyone know if they are really saved? We hope we will be, but its all up to God in the end. The Bible rarely says unequivocally that anyone is saved. I can think of one example, when Jesus says to the thief "today you and I will be in paradise". I can't think of another place in scripture where it says for sure that anyone is saved.

God bless.

The deal is you are saved if you believe 100% that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins to be forgotten. He is the son of God sent to do this act. And that is the basics. Im not surprised you have questions. everybody always has questions. If they tell you differently they are lying because if they didnt have questions they would be perfect and thats impossible. I think that the details dont matter as the base of it all. If you believe in God and His Son Jesus Christ then you are saved and nothing can take that away from you. You will always question and thats okay. We all do and thats what God wants because thats how you grow.

oh, hun, every christian has questions. pastors have questions. i constantly wonder about things, many things. it is kind of odd...you ask (repent )jesus christ to come into yourself (heart) and to forgive your sins..oddly enough it is real! it sounds a little hooey, but when i was young i did and though it doesnt happen immediately, like Wham!, it happens that you know certain things to be true, it is the most awesome experience to know something with your whole being.
ps. what i know is that jesus christ is the son of god....everything else must be thought upon by yourself
i do church only once a month...its not about that

The short answer is that your husband is full of it. There is no reason to believe in any sort of god, and hence no reason to believe in sin or redemption. Nor is there any evidence of heaven, hell, or any other sort of afterlife. You are entirely correct to be questioning things, because it is only thus that you can come upon real answers. But for the sake of domestic tranquillity, avoid discussing any of this with your husband, and possibly go through the motions if you don't find them too intellectually offensive (which I would).

You accept Christ as your Lord and Savior and you really truly meant it then your saved. If you felt the holy spirt come to you then again I would say you made a choice then and that feeling is when you feel that pull to walk down the aisle in church when the preacher calls for people to come accept him and by I mean Jesus for example that is. I don't know when and where you may have made your decision.
