How come when Windows XP first came out, you needed to activate it, but with the release of SP2, that was removed, and now in Vista, it is back again. Why?

they do it with vista, to make sure you do not give the disc to your friend to put on their computer. 1 disc per computer. if you even want to put it on your laptop and your desktop you hve to buy 2 licences.

Activation with windows has never been removed, and with windows Vista it is going to be more difficult to install it more than twice, so you had better check it out, on MS vista web site

Perhaps because the SP2 was an upgrade.

its all about the money$$ man! microsoft wants to sell as many indivisual licenses as they can, so one cd one computer. when the time come to where they sold enough they change it like they did it to xp.
