Hello. Recently I have been interested with martial arts. Currently I am looking for a style that is good mesh for my abilities. I am currently 14 years old. I have am 5'9, 175 pounds and possess a muscular body type. Despite my muscle, I believe I am very flexible, because I can put both legs behind my legs and I my nose can touch the heel of my foot without much pain nor effot. In addition, my bones (or muscle) are very dense because I can hit things that tend to hurt or break my friends' bones. My parents say I'm pretty strong so I joined my high school's wrestling team. Though I am doing well for a rookie, I don't like grapples that much. I prefer strikes. To the best my reculection, when I was ever in a physical conflict, my street style has been defensive as well as offensive from techniques I have emulated from various sources. When I practice with my friends they claim that I am pretty loose when I'm evading and stiff when I am attacking. So which martial art is better for me?

I would recommend kick-boxing or free style karate. There is no grappling involved and I get the idea from your question that you maybe prefer something where you don't want to memorize a bunch of katas and forms. Kick-boxing has neither.

This doesn't mean you won't learn some discipline though as you will end up in the ring after six months. This is usually a very humbling experience, which is good. If you can stick with it for six months you will probably appreciate proper forms and even grappling a lot more, because you will find out what how you really measure up.

I would go with mixed martial arts to get a feeling of different martial arts styles. You stated that you do not like grappling but the truth of the matter is that most street fights end up on the ground anyway, even with some of the most experienced martial artist, so whatever you like or not its practical to become a well rounded fighter which includes standing- as well as grappling, as far as one style in my experiences in the martial arts it isn't style that makes a great martial artist its commitment and dedication.

I tend to favor the Japanese traditional martial arts but with what you are saying you may want to consider Jeet Kune Do or maybe Kempo. The traditional Japanese martial arts while good may make you more rigid or wooden offensively-especially if the class and instructor are very traditional and only teach martial arts along those lines. Go and watch some classes at the studios in your area and see what is available and best fits you.

Since you don't like grappling, consider a striking art, such as karate, taekwondo, boxing, kickboxing, kung fu, or many others. I have practiced taekwondo and karate in the past- TKD favors the flexible and quick, while karate requires more upper body strength.

It sounds like you could be successful with several different arts based on your body type. Since it's not the case that there's only one art you could do well at, I would recommend finding the best instructor in your area. Learning from a great master will have the biggest positive impact on your training life. Good luck!

If you want to be able to fight and win most of your battles learn boxing and wrestling. Boxing is great for while the fight is off the ground, and wrestling is great for one it ends up on the ground, as most of them do. Being able to grapple and hold is vital. It's how most police offices take down guys two times their size. Being able to bend you body in half does not mean much when someone is punching into your body.
