Why would someone possibly not want to be called, "muffin" in public?? "Pop Tart" I can understand, but, "muffin???" It's not like I'm calling her, "ho bag," or something. Don't get me wrong, I fully respect her wishes and never use this term of endearment when we are around others (aside from the occasional slip up), but I just don't understand why she has this attitude. She should be flattered! The worst thing is when I start to call her, "muffin," then realize it after I have already said, "muff," needless to say, I can't stop there, so I have to ad lib something, like, "Mufflers are so important, especially in a neighborhood setting." People are starting to think I'm crazy! Can someone please explain this to me?

She doesn't like the nickname. She's giving in on you using it in private, but it embarrasses her in public. How would you like her calling you "Snookums" or "Sweetcheeks" or something equally sickening in public? It's great that you try to restrain yourself - keep up the good work!

Sorry, but I agree with ur g/f. Muffin sounds like a name for a dog or cat, but too cutesy for a gal`s pet name. Then u have those people with their minds below the belt that will take "muffin" as to mean a certain part of the female anatomy.
Just ask her what she like u to call her in public, her answer will probably be her given name or her nickname. Leave the muffin in the bakery.

would you like to be called muffin in the public? If not, then you know how it feels. If so, then you should grow up! No offense. You ask and I answered and this is what this site is all about.

She may be the kind of person that gets embarrassed easily. My boyfriend doesnt mind if I call him pet names at home, but not anywhere else. I dont give a hoot what he calls me in public as long as he dont call me late for supper. Everyone is different though.

Lol, you need to ask her why she does not like being called this in public, only she knows. I think you should have a talk with her to get her to open up, if this is that big of a deal to you. Good luck.

you should just respect her enough to
comply with her wishes. After all, she is not comfortable with the pet name in public.
Try to respect that. If you insist on making a big deal out of it, it could do damage to your relationship, is a pet name worth that?
Just keep trying to not use it in public and apologize when you do.

I can not help if you are questioning an aspect of respect she is asking for.
As a sign of respect to her - please do not call her "muffin" in public.
As to explaining a womans mind to you - no one can do this. Good luck.
If asked "How do I look?" or "Am I fat?" - stick a candy bar in your mouth and run, as it sounds like you'd tell her!
Again good luck.
(Look at your Dad, and other married men - they do not look or sound crazy anymore now do they - they're married! Ask them this question.)

Maybe she associates it with Aunt Jemina and baked-goods. Check out what the Urban Dictionary has to say: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=muffin
