Yes they do. Spicy foods such as peppers - red, green and other varieties contain a chemical called Capsaicin. This on entering your blood via the gastro -intestinal tract cause a rise in temperature, increased breathing rate, dilation of blood vessels. I have read several times that hot peppers speed up your metabolism. But it doesn't help much if you are putting them on a big cheese enchilada or something. Green tea supposedly speeds the metabolism as well.
