Thanks Fr.Al, I Think I See Most of What you Are Getting At, as you Know, there Are Good and Amongst All Groups of people, What I was Saying is that people Misrepresent Themselves (is this Lying?) and Are Commonly Taken At their Word. About the Joke, I Have Heard Something Similar Before.

I think "Physician" means MD or DO degree, certainly not a chiropractor. If a chiropractor is calling himself a physician, it's fraudulent.

Sort of like a mall security guard calling himself a policeman.

I worked very hard to achieve my degree, and continue to work and study hard to maintain my knowledge and skills. I'm offended by those who try to trivialize that.

For people who knows the word would have an impression you are a person with medical degree capable of performing works aimed to treat or manage patients. For people do not undestand the word there might be a slight confusion of what you are- as some people would simply understand and know if you say " I am a doctor." But generally high percentage of people would stll think you are a doctor if you say "I'm a Physician".

it means to me that you are a doctor of medicine if i hear you say that however i would immediatley retort with "what kind of physician?" it aslo means to me that you have had a lot of schooling if a medical physician at least 8 years and it would also mean to me that i should be able to carry on a conversation with you that was meaningful as long as i was NOT your patient since drs have so little time any more to sit and "chat" for a few minutes with a patient since the rising cost of malpratice insurance and the bureuacratic bullshit from the government about what "medicine" is covered this week and what is not and i would think also in this day and age with frivilous lawsuits, governmental changes WHY be a medical doctor and unfortunatley i am thinking this oh by the way i am a nurse and i would also think how do you put up with the red tape in your way to cure/heal a person and keep you out of the hot seat??

It really irritates me when they call themselves physcians. I am in med school in Iowa and they are allowed to do school physicals, even though they have little training in the heart, which is one thing you worry about with student athletes. Just wait until someone gets cleared by a chiropractor who misses that heart problem and the kid dies on the field.
I don't have a problem with them having the doctor title as the amount of training that they do earns them a doctorate level degree. however, to be a physician one must go through two years of classroom training followed by two years of clinical rotations, followed by a residency.
Chiropractors go to school for three years and they are done, and learn a curriculum that is specific to musculoskeltal manipulation. If they wanted to be physicians, they should have gone to medical school, otherwise they can just learn to deal with being a chiropractor and stick with what they were trained to do.

It is a more precise term for a practitioner of medicine. The term Doctor, which is more commonly used, used to be more frequent for those in my profession (Priest) than yours. A Doctor is one who has passed through the halls of academia. I have a daughter who is a Doctor also, she teaches music and education.

Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I seldom hear of those who are not credentialed and certified as physicians calling themselves that. I know and work with many nurses who often do things many physicians can't, as well as a few chiropractors capable of treating patients who've not found relief from remedies provided by physicians, but most of these are proud of their profession and wouldn't think of calling themselves physicians.

Question," What do you call a physician who graduated in the bottom 10% of his graduating class?"
Answer, "Doctor,"

A mall security guard is a policeman, authorized by those who hired hm to police the mall. In most jurisdictions formal training and certification for police is optional.

[ edit. The only originality I can claim is being myself. The joke I believe came from Michael Crichton. We have to maintain professional standards and continnue to expose frauds where they exist, but also not take ourselves too seriously. I've been called many things as a priest, quite a few of them not very nice, but the most humbling thing was when a teacher who'd known five generations of my family and taught four of those in school before she retired was the first to call me, "Father."]

I agree, but based on your answer to my question it makes me wonder if you are even a doctor, because you certainly don't seem to be familiar with the healthcare system.
