Come on, be honest. Put it as a percentage; for example, 20% of the reason you believe is because of fear of hell and 75% because you want to go to heaven (5% margin for error).

I held onto Christianity long after I stopped believing it because I was afraid I'd burn in hell for eternity or god would strike me with a lightning bolt. This reason was 100% of why I held onto it.

It seems that people stick to churches or congregations as some like to say, not so much because that absolute Bible truths are taught there, but because of the social circle provided.

If you are a Christian who demands truth -- but find yourself out on the street cut off from your fellows (not fellow believers since there may be none) that is a lonely place for a Christian.
Especially lonely, since the Bible admonishes Christians to come together so as to encourage each other to Good Christian Works.

Perhaps a Christian at times must demand 100% truth and do his utmost for this -- while at the same time fellowship with people in a non-contentious manner that do not share this need for truth simply to have people to worship with?!

See subject sectism:

I am not religious, therefore none of that matters. I live my life the best i can, with very high morals and standards. I have a conscience and it gets the best of me. If that for some reason gets me into Heaven, then great... but i dont do it for that... i do it, becuase its the right thing to do.

I may be stepping on toes here, but i think the people who have to believe in a religion actually do NEED it in order to be a good person... they wouldn't know otherwise... for me... i just simply know what is right.. i dont need a mythical being or book to tell me how.

0% to all of your 3 choices... :D

You shouldnt have to believe in a religion for the fear of what will happen if you do not follow it. If that were true then I would be Buddist, there is no good or evil no afterlife only the here and now

fear comes from knowledge. For example: why don't you drive over speed limit (most of the time)? is it B/C you know what happens if you are stopped by a cup? B/C you know what happens if you crash? Is it fear? yes a fear that comes from a knowledge.

you do not need a religion for something to hold on to. that is crap. believe in change, evolution etc.. things that actually exist and will help the human race progress into the future. how is religion helping us at all. it was the source of many wars?? is it really necessary?. no. if you need to hold on to it.. get a life and learn to walk on your own. many others have done it. why cant u move on?

Some people don't question it at all, while others don't look for a reason and lose their belief, but also alot of the belief comes purley from faith.

"unproven" beliefs? Try googling the "Lanciano eucharistic miracle", or The Virgin de Guadalupe image

I guess hell never scared me enough to worry about it.
