to feel they may actually have god-like qualities by being Zeus' son or daughter. They can then feel like they are better than the rest of humanity. They need to know that the Greek gods and goddesses were probably the fallen angels that were cast out of heaven with Lucifer.

The same needs any other gods fulfill.
I'm not trying to be flippant, but it just seems obvious to me. I work with the Greek Gods as one of four pantheons I use throughout the year.

The Greek gods were basically created to be just like people, but with superpowers (and insane sexual drives).
So the Greeks had a god they felt they could understand...but at the same time worship.
And if the gods could carouse to their hearts content, why not humanity, too?
