be it me, XP, or Vista. I'm not talkin about Microsoft Corporation here, just the operating system.

From the responses I am reading, don't you think, although Windows may be a "virus magnet" or does crash, that you as the user need to maintain your computer. Even a Mercedes Benz would break down if not properly maintained. And, no I am NOT comparing Windows to Benz, just an example.

Well there are a number of reasons:

1. Security functionalities are very bad.
2. Loads of bugs.
3... the list goes on and on.

In a nutshell, the fact that you are even asking this question means you haven't tried out other operating systems out there such as Linux, Mac OS X. You never know what you are missing until someone shows you what else is possible..!!

Yes, a Merc would break down as well if not maintained and so would a better OS like Linux or Mac OS X.

But given the option, would you pay for a car that would break down easy or choose another one that is free (Linux), more secure, better functionalities, much more advanced?

Most people that use Macs think that they cannot get any viruses. They can get viruses just as easily as Microsoft computers, but nobody makes them for Mac computers. If everyone started using Mac (which will never happen), then they would start getting viruses just as frequently as microsoft computers. They just hate it because they don't have it. Microsoft is what all the games and programs are compatable with. Seriously, go to Microcenter or Best Buy right now and try and find a GOOD computer game that is compatable with Mac.

People hate on it because its a generally crappy way to run a computer.

Lock-ups, system errors, security holes, virus vulnerability, garbage "demo" software, shall I continue??

The simple fact is that Windows version blank dot blank was a slapped-together ripoff of the Mac OS. Mac users have been using features for years that Windows is just now trying to duplicate. The Mac systems don't crash, don't suffer virus attacks, and focus on the creative and fun things computers can do.

I wish I could afford to trash this Windows garbage and switch for myself...

well if your JUST talking about the operating system...and if by operating system you mean a bloated, slow, system hogging, $200 virus magnet, then I would have to say that all of the development is horrible and their developers rush it out the door. And since they have to still be able to support all of their other bloated, slow, system hogging $200 virus magnets previous to them, it just keeps snowballing.

MS or M$ knows that companies are too afraid to switch to Linux or Mac so they can always count on them as customers, and software developers still have more access to code with M$ then Mac, although they have the most access to Linux, but no one really uses linux.

Most Mac users don't like Microsoft because they aren't smart enough to do anything with it. Mac can't do anything, so there is no room for confusion.
