For those of us who have no alternative but to drive, what are some ideas for conserving gas or getting better mileage?

mmm, well driving at slower speeds will increase the mileage and only using the car for distance travel helps cut down on gas usage. Still, the only real way to actually increase mileage is to tune up the car (if it is needed) or get a car with better gas mileage.

Proper tire pressure, regular oil changes, change your fuel filter, injectors and air filter. Never punch the gas to speed up fast-ease into it. Also ride share a few times a week. Don't leave for lunch, pack it and stay at work. Run errands as close to home as you can.

Keep your car tuned up. With regular oil changes etc.Also, combine all of your errands, so that you make as few trips as possible. choose the shortest routes with the least left hand turns, (or turns that you must make that cross traffic.) the less that you have to sit idoling the better, so the less you have to sit waiting to cross traffic the better.

I walk to places now when I can. Used to drive the short distances and do not any longer.

i found paying the extra 2 dollars for medium grade gas will get u further, and also not gasing it, just drive normal, take off gradually but not slow where the engine will hesitate to go, and the coommon stuf, tire pressure, tune up ect
