Anger is a normal emotion, however it should be controlled. There's contructive anger, and destructive anger. I don't think the root comes from the same source for all people. Anger is closely related to being upset about a situation.

Hi Midge!
I believe the root of anger is stress and powerless feelings. People get angry as a way of taking control of a situation. Anger then provides the false feeling of security, direction, or stability and one may feel like the person in charge.

Excellent question. Wow! Good on you.
I have felt anger a few times in my life. Sometimes it is definitely fear related. More often than not it seems to stem from disillusionment. I would be able to classify disillusionment is fear as well. Fear that I had such faith in someone or something only to discover that they could show a different side I had no idea existed. Betrayal, I guess is what you could call it.

No, I think the root of anger is a belief in the notion that the the seeming bondage of man (false substance) is real. If this belief were destroyed, anger could never get a foothold in thought in order to be expressed.

I think the root of anger is a sense of injustice done to self or others. Many times we perceive that someone has wronged us (true or not) and get angry. It becomes a problem when we have to be 'right' all the time. We find ourselves all alone in Rightville.

Yes. Fear is the root of the absence of love. Everything negative is fear based.

I agree that fear is the largest obstacle to happiness, and causes much anger. Peter Gabriel has a great song about it, "Mother of Violence":
===
Walking the street with her naked feet
So full of rhythm but I can't find the beat
Snapping her heels clicking her toes
Everybody knows just where she goes
Fear, fear -- she's the mother of violence
making me tense to watch the way she breed
Fear, she's the mother of violence
you know self-defense is all you need
it's getting hard to breathe
It's getting so hard to believe
to believe in anything at all
Mouth all dry eyes blood shot
data stored in microdot
Kicking the cloud with my moccasin shoes
T.V. dinner, T.V. news
Fear, fear -- she's the mother of violence
don't make any sense to watch the way she breed
Fear, she's the mother of violence
making me tense to watch the way she feed
The only way you know she's there
Is the subtle flavour in the air
Getting hard to breathe
hard to believe in anything at all
but fear

No, not at all.
"A strong feeling of displeasure or hostility."
I see nothing there about fear. Fear causes intolerance, fear causes people to shut down emotionally or socially. I think anger could maybe be an after effect of fear, but I don't think you can argue that fear causes anger.

The root of anger is not fear but selfishness. We get angry because we didn't get it our way.
