This is difficult but not impossible.
Your state should have an adoption web site where there are 1000's of people looking for their relatives also.
I'm still searching for my family from the 1960's also.

this was my starting point.
good luck to you and your search

Try what others have said, put your information on adoption sites. If you know where she was born, you could put an ad in the paper like looking for a girl born to (mothers name) and then the date. I put an ad in the local free paper and all i had was my mothers name. I found her and a bunch of brothers and sisters. There are also people out there who specialize in finding birth relatives, you might want to contact one for some help.
By the way, what state are you in. I am looking for a sister born in the 60s in NY. What is your mothers name? I will check back for a post.

First you need to find out what the laws are in your state. Also, what the laws are in your county. Here in California, we can petition the court for adoption records, but these petitions are not granted just to satisfy curiosity.

There must be (a) serious, compelling reason (or reasons) in order to sway the court to grant such a petition. For example, if the adopted person has medical concerns that would impact his/her health, and they need the biological family medical history.

The reason I mentioned researching the laws of your county, is because in Los Angeles County (where I live) the requirements are much more stringent than in Orange County (just a few miles from my house).

If you live in California I can send you copies of the petition. You would just fill it out, and submit it to the court of jurisdiction based on where you live AND where the child or children were born AND where the adoption took place.

You may email me at ctroop@yahoo.com

Good luck..........

hmmmm. this is very interesting. what i would say is go to a police station or call the nearest local govt office and ask them how to reach that agency which keeps track of people. it might be a struggle but if ure up to it, you can eventually find something of a birth certificate or something which might lead to a string of discoveries.

It will be difficult, but you can do it. I was adopted and given very little about my past. It's emotionally difficult, but try not to give up. I wish you all the best in finding your sister.
