"When a boy reaches the age of four years, four months and four days, (he) is dressed up like a little bridegroom and sent to school to recite his first verse of the Koran. The verse is written in honey on a slate and, after the boy masters it, the honey is dissolved in water. The boy drinks the sweet holy words as a spiritual and physical nourishment.

Kilroymaster - In 'Last Great American Whale' Lou Reed sings - "Dont believe half of what you see and none of what you hear" - I think he is being overly generous. I will however consider things that catch my fancy.

you of many initials - History could show that the Muslims use of force to convert other nations was borrowed directly from Christianity due to its effectiveness. If I, as a Christian, were judged by the actions the militant few I would be subject to the kind of hatred you are so freely giving away. I would encourage you to look for the good in that which you do not understand. The remarkable thing about looking for the good is that you will find it (The opposite is also true, but you appear to be quite familiar with that). Peace.

(Gawdzilla) - Creator? As in a big sky daddy - no (but I do put my butt in a pew on occaision). I find the world we live in Awesome, Delightful, and Mysterious. I think that religion is the attempt by humankind to put into common language this experience of the 'spiritual'. I think that words are rough tools for this - and it leads to people making dogma out of belief - always a dangerous thing. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I am Muslim, but I have never heard of this tradition or have seen any relatives go through it. I believe it may be a cultural tradition. Many people usually confuse Arab culture with Islam. But if you want to make sure, check the Quran (a translated version) or ask an Imam (you can find one at a Mosque). If it's not in there, it's not a tradition that all Muslims need to go through.

I can't uncover some thing involving donating the burden of the hair as gold. The daughter of the prophet donated silver, no longer gold. Also, the pupils vary whether or not to shave most effective boys, or each girls and boys. The aqiqa (slaughter sheep) is 2 for a boy, and one for a lady. The sheep will have to be allotted as Auth-heya (like those in Eid Al-Ath-ha) 3rd is going to family, 3rd to deficient, and 3rd to your self.

I was raised muslim and never heard this. must be a cultural thing from a specific muslim country maybe india cause I don't think arabs do it. And such symbolism is not usual for the religion which does not believe in any rituals besides direct prayer to God. Where did you learn this?

Teaching children that suicide is honorable is not beautiful.

Those who teach this stuff in the koran, like the Arabs do in palestine, are not angels, not good teachers, not even good parents. They are proxies of death, the angels of satan that would kill those little ones by using them for delivery systems for bombs that express the hatred of infidels that the Koran teaches.

Look to history, no Islamic nation ever converted from the nations original religion except by the threat of the sword.

Death is truly a motivator, an no honey can ever change that.
