so yeah, any ideas on why the dome fuse blows the moment the battery is connected, and which fuse is for the sound?
note the dash clock went out at the same time as the stereo, so i guess theyre on the same fuse

Yes they are all on the same fuse. Have you checked the bulb?
If the fuse blows right away there is a direct short somewhere.
You need to start eliminating systems to find the problem.

my guess is your stereo is wired up wrong, or has a bare wire, causing the fuse to blow, start there.

Probably the door switch for the light is grounding out---check both sides

the stereo ground is disconnected or a wire is touching the stereo
