Ok. Not to debunk some of the ignorance around here but sexual orientation is determined biologically and people with those 'conditions' are perfectly normal. Just because you can't understand how people are different doesn't make them any less 'normal' than you

Almost my exact words when they arrested me in the barracks with that sheep.

Joking aside, they're doing the same fine job as everyone else in the military and have been for generations. It's long past time to open our eyes and accept it.

I personally don't find that kind of thing (gay love etc.) attractive, but what is the problem? they're people, too, just with different sexual orientations, which is as biologically based as skin pigment color. end the bigotry and let qualified people of all ethnicities, political affiliations, sexual orientations and genders, beliefs, etc. into the military and all other esteemed positions in society. there was never any moral issue to ban African-Americans and women (ok, maybe a few, but nothing really serious enough to stop them from entering!), why should there be one against homosexuals?

They don't belong in the military, it's as simple as that. New recruits are generally young people who's sexual orientation has never been tested. Their biggest fear is to be tested, homosexually speaking. If a homosexual is outed in this environment, his life isn't worth spit.

Out of fear of this person, the others will make life a living hell if not worse. Morale drops to an all time low. Training is compromised because of the preoccupation towards this one person.

It is just too disruptive to allow this to happen. Clinton's cowardly act of 'don't ask, don't tell' was so typical of his inability to make decisions, and this one was disastrous !

I don't think most of the military would care. I was never in a unit that didn't have a couple. The only time it ever made a differance was if the guy was an asshole. At that point being gay was fuel to the fire, but rarely was it the cause of problems.

Its a non issue. Ive served with three that I know of, with no problems. NONE were openly gay. And when asked informally by their peers denied it.

One of the guys made a pass at another military member, and it did not work out for him. The straight guy told him to leave and told a couple of people. When tasked to deploy, the gay guy went to life skills and told them he was a practicing homosexual and was gonna eat his gun if he deployed...he was out in less than 10 days.

Another, came out after seperating.

Another is stll in, but I he is a switch hitter.

To summarize, and finally answer your question.

Everyone in the military must follow orders and abide by the UCMJ. It is against orders and a violation of the UCMJ to be a practicing homosexual in the military.

I follow the rules and follow orders, I don't think anyone who is gay has any excuse for not following orders as well, when they enlisted they knew gay behavior was not allowed while serving.

Thus if they choose to come out or be opening gay while serving...throw em out with a general or bad conduct discharge. If they just want to come to work and get the job done, its not an issue.

Would you prefer to serve along side a women or a gay man in a combat situation ? I'd say the gay because I wouldn't be as overlly cautious as with a women in the trenches who I think would lead to carnage as some men would try to "protect" her, endangering themselves and others. Their have been some pretty tough footballers around the world that were gay and retaliated with all that gay bashing by completely smashing some bloke for the flack. If they made a pass on you than yeh they should be dealt with !

I served in the Army over twenty-five years ago. There were many gays there. Some were more open than others.

It was a not issue for most of us. I know many who served honorably, quietly and served well.

People on both sides need to grow up.

I think it is a bad idea. First of all, soldiers have to sleep next to each other, shower in same area, and go on patrol together. How would a gay man fit in? I don't want a gay guy sleeping next to me under those circumstances. He would definitely have to act like a heterosexual man, but could he? Could he be savage enough to fight in a war?
