If a soldier killed in Iraq was a rapist and a murderer would you honor him for dying in Iraq?
Just because you die as a soldier it doesn't automatically make you respectable.
P.S.
Don't suppose by this I am justifying the conduct of some who wage protests at military funerals.
I consider such conduct reprehensible.
The point is, the two issues are not related.

In response to an above Answer: It's ridiculous to compare a murderer to a gay person. The act of murder hurts the one murdered, his/her family, and the community at large. The act of being gay hurts no one.
EDIT: I don't think you were trying to be inflammatory, but it came off that way. You're splitting hairs (Not all soldiers deserve respect) in a thread that is meant to point out something completely different (People should not be denied respect simply on the basis of being gay). IMO.

I don't get the connection. someone stupid enough to volenteer to go in the middle of a civil war is someone to be respected?
I don't care what their sexual orientation or religon that wasjust plain stupid.
Some people were in the wrong place at the wrong time kind of like in a car accident. That hardly makes them a hero.
Well, maybe the fire fighters. that was pretty brave.
I mean are we going to call heros every civilian that gets killed in Iraq? There is what 200,000 of them now?
So civilian or USA Soldier that makes them respected.
If they die in a war? No matter how I say it just doesn't happen for me.

I can respect a person regardless of their sexual preference, colour, race, culture, physical appearance, language, circumstances in life, religion, beliefs, or anything else. A person is a person. Differentiating between people on any basis IS ridiculous.

As a christian I dont disrespect anyone and I have never judged another person for his sexual orientation. I respect all soldiers for their service to protect our freedoms. Where would we be if it werent for them. So many of them have died in their service to our country and they should each be honored.

I respect and thank ALL soliders past and present that have risked their lives for our freedom and liberty. May we all remember them all this Memorial Day Weekend. God Bless
Dear God,
This prayer Lord, that I say tonight
Is for our troops who all must fight .
These are the troops that we all love
And so I pray dear Lord above
Please keep them safe while they’re away
And bring them home to us someday.
This prayer is not for ours alone
But for all military far from home.
I ask You to keep them safe and sound
On their way to where they're bound.
We love them all that are asked to fight
So keep them safe for us tonight.
Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the selfless acts
they perform for us in our time of need.
AMEN!!
For Emily above, people like my father and grandfather's fought in 2 World Wars and Korea just so you have the frredom that you have in this country. By disrespecting them, you disrespect the United States of America, and you should be ashamed of yourself. You should be down on your knees thanking these men and women. These men and women thru out the years volunterred to go to war to protect our freedom. Freedom is not free.
