It's just like when you have diarrhea... it dehydrates the body at a fast rate, causing you to lose most of your electrolites. This causes heart issues and constant loss of energy and drowsiness.

Hi there girlygurl.

Laxatives work by irritating the gastro intestinal tract and this results in the body eliminating feacal material quickly. Hence weight loss on the scales. Being an irritant laxatives cause abdominal cramping and diarrhoea. This in turn can result in dehydration, and poor nutrient asbsorption.

Laxatives taken over the longer term actually decondition the muscles in the large colon and cause chronic constipation if the user stops taking the laxatives. The colon muscle will loses tone and becomes redundant. It becomes very difficult to restore normal muscle movement even with the use of colonic lavage therapy.

Often the user will find that they have to take more and more laxatives to achieve a bowel movement, this is good for the companies that make laxatives.

Laxatives can be benefical in short term for various acute medical conditions but not as a solution to weight loss. Best to stick to diet and exercise.

I hope this has been of help to you.

laxatives dehydrate you which only causes temporary loss of water weight -- you will put it right back on drinking water. they used to have sweat suits that would do similar things -- you would sweat all your water weight out. you need your water weight -- it helps things circulate through your body. one example -- most headaches are attributed to dehydration -- if your brain isn't getting enough water it tells you.
