I am on morphine skin patches and at home, living a normal life to the best of my ability. However I am on what they term a small maintenance dose and have to go and change my patch now. Before I do, I did have one injection and was told to go Home ASAP, within the hour. I can remember my friend coming to visit me, but as to the conversation, who knows. According to my friend I was sat here smiling like a Cheshire cat and that was IT! I have Arthritis but have a few discs bulges which are doing something to the nerves in my right leg, hence the introduction of morphine. It does really knock pain on the head, although starting morphine was not easy, was vomiting for three days, could not keep anything down, food or drink. The initial patch had me feeling lightheaded and as if I was on a ship in Storm Force 9. However got over that barrier and all has now settled. I am now off to Hospital tomorrow for the all important nerve conduct study, but as I have Arthritis, have been told they will not operate unless I loose my bowel and bladder function, due to discs bulging. Without the morphine I would not be able to 'function' attend Aqua Jogging, drive my car, go shopping or answer questions at Yahoo. Would be in bed 24/7. Have now been on it for just over one year.

Morphine is a very strong pain medication. It has many side effects and should not be used unless the doctor feels it is absolutely necessary.
