Some people think that discrimination against homosexual people should be allowed because they call it a 'choice', and they say that if homosexual people do not like being denied certain legal rights then all they have to do is change their sexual attraction.

Although scientific studies have shown homosexuality to be biological, religion has not been shown to be biological. Religion is a choice.

Since religion is a choice, should there be no legal protections based on religion? If someone of a certain religion does not want to be discriminated against, all they would have to do is convert to another religion to avoid discrimination. Do those who want to deny legal protections for homosexuals by calling it a 'choice' agree that the choice of religion should be denied those same protections?

Even if you think homosexuality is a 'choice', isn't denying certain rights to homosexuals while wanting those same rights in regards to the choice of religion hypocritical?

People will ignore science whenever it goes against their ingrained beliefs. There are some instances where this is not the case, but homosexuality is not one of them.

People fear gay people because they don't understand them. They don't like people that are different from having power. period.

i think that anyone who wants to do something odd, something beyond the nature or beyond what is aproved in their society regarding any issue...changing religion, changing sexual orientation or anything should accept the fact that they r taking the hard way and should know that they will face many difficulties coz people can't accept the others easily...but u 'll always be a minority..and no minority in million years will have equal rights to those of the majority so u can weigh things.. what can u sacrifice to do what u think is right for u.................
ps..i m not homosexual..but i dont think it's a choice..i think it's a psychological disturbance that could have been prevented or corrected early...but there is no such thing as biological homosexuality...becoz it's against nature..humans are supposed to reproduce..that is the main purpose for sexual functions..not just for pleasure..and homosexuality makes this function lose it's main point...so it can't b natural.

very well put, and I completely agree. those who claim it's a choice and think we should be denied rights are nothing but hypocrites. I'm sorry...but where in the Constitution is it written that we are all created equal....as long as we are white, Christian, conservative heterosexuals? if we are all "equal," why do some people think those laws only apply to certain people, and not those they deem "unworthy" somehow?
God created and loves us all! and if He didn't create homosexuals, there wouldn't be any!

very eloquent, reasonable and rational - unlike the enraged ranting of many religious folk!
no, not all relgious people feel so much hatred towards homsexuals, but many do.
and to answer another poster, if you research far enough back it becomes obvious that homosexuality goes back a long way - it has become the norm of society to believe that all couples must be 1 male, 1 female, mating for life and to reproduce. but that is only a fairly recent tradition in the greater scale of things.

people in general have difficulties accepting or understanding anything outside of their experience - instead of being curious, questioning, interested, empathetic, many of them immediately put up barriers and become defensive of their beliefs and aggressive about others'. i'm sure jesus' doctrine of loving thy neighbour does not include discrimination?!

the bigots should be pitied for their fear and stupidity. and their hypocrisy, which is rife and has little basis in fact.
so i say yes to your question at the end!

and the move towards a 'religious' society was led by a desire to move towards a patriarchial society,as the religious leaders of christianity feared the power of the female with her link to fertility and mother nature, she was revered by her communities, so they suppressed it and her, and it has led us to war, hatred for others and an unbalanced distribution of wealth and power.

Homosexuality isn't a choice (ask anyone whether they could actually choose to change their sexuality - the idea is an obvious nonsense), and no religion should have any special privileges.

Homosexuality is an abomination to God, it is a stench in His nostrils. Anyone who is practicing homosexuality and does so up until their death will have nothing to look for a horrible life in hell.

all religion is hypocritical. i hope eventually the christian fundamentalists are the minority in this country and then maybe everyone really will be treated as equals. and those with any brains realize that no one would chose something that makes thier lives so much harder for something as trivial as who they want to sleep with.

Many people who are against homosexuality arent ALL religious..they just appreciate the tradition of marriage between a man and a woman..it has always been that way.

I agree with Amanda, all religion is hypocritical. They forgave Ted for his gay/meth adventures but if it was someone else thye'd be burning them at the stake.
