My dog had the same problem she used 2 pull and sniff everything and u would pull so hard... we got a harness it went around her little snout and attached 2 her lead. It didnt stop the pulling she hated it and she used 2 get her paws on her face and scratch it off! It was her enemy like an anerexic person being forced 2 eat a whole buffet without vomiting! She would scratch and pull and anthing 2 gwet it off. Then we saw a PERFECT harness it wasnt around her face or snout but it like has 2 little leg stapps and ye its really good! So try and get a harness that goes around her body and legs rather than snount. If it is around her legs then reawrd her when she wears it. Or maybe reward her hen she walks well without it.

Most people get taken in by names, the only thing gentle about a Gentle Leader is in the mind of the handler. Believe me, to the dog there is absolutely NOTHING gentle about a harness. The reason for this is because it is the dog that makes the correction on its self instead of the handler making the correction. It is a complete misconception to think that no correction was made.
The solution to the problem is to NOT try to teach the dog "not to pull", instead teach the dog to walk on a loose lead (heel).
To begin with you need to understand how a lead works. It is imposable to make a correction when the lead is tight between your hand and the dog, all you do when you try is take the dog for a "drag" instead of a walk.
You want the lead to go from the dog to your left hand with only enough slack for the dog to move about in the aria allowed (becomes a smaller aria as the dog learns).
The lead then goes from the left hand to the right hand which has hold of the loop at the end. Whenever the lead becomes tight between the dog and your left hand, drop the lead from your left hand which will restore slack between the dog and now your right hand which has hold of the lead. Now you can make a proper correction by giving the lead a quick "pop". IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE PRESSURE IS RELEASED AS QUICKLY AS IT IS APPLIED, thus restoring the slack.
The dog will quicklly learn thet it is it's job to adjust it's speed to maintain the slack in the lead. I normally will teach this in just one training session.

Why don't you teach the dog the "heel" command so that it doesn't pull on the leash? Then it would not matter what harness you used. Oh, you do not know how to teach your dog? This problem and many future problems could be solved if you would enroll yourself in a good obedience class. This will teach you about dog behavior and how to teach your dog. This will result in a better and safer pet.

Most dogs are not scared it is every few. Like yours, it might hurt her, she/ might have bad memories if she/he was adopted from a pound, or she/he does not like being held back. I think you should try a different color harness, there was a study in a science magazine that said the color that attracts dogs most is yellow. So you should try a yellow harness.
