+ Taking the Bible Literally +

The Catholic Church does not take the stories of creation in the Bible literally. Catholics believe the book of Genesis tells religious truth and not necessarily historical fact.

One of the religious truths is that God created everything and declared all was good.

Catholics can believe in the theory of evolution. Or not. The Church does not require belief in evolution.

On August 12, 1950 Pope Pius XII said in his encyclical Humani generis:

The Teaching Authority of the Church does not forbid that, in conformity with the present state of human sciences and sacred theology, research and discussions, on the part of men experienced in both fields, take place with regard to the doctrine of evolution, in as far as it inquires into the origin of the human body as coming from pre-existent and living matter - for the Catholic faith obliges us to hold that souls are immediately created by God.

Here is the complete encyclical: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/pius_xii/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-xii_enc_12081950_humani-generis_en.html

The Church supports science in the discovery of God's creation. At this time, the theory of evolution is the most logical scientific explanation. However tomorrow someone may come up with a better idea.

As long as we believe that God started the whole thing, both the Bible and modern science can live in harmony.

+ Miracles +

However this does not mean that Catholics do not believe in miracles.

When God does something we think is impossible we call it a miracle.

We are under the laws of nature, God is not.

+ With love in Christ.

Hmmm...not an easy question to answer. As sentient beings (notice...I didn't say HUMAN) we need a higher power for those times we cannot handle things on our own.

I am a contradiction: a scientist who believes in God. I understand the workings of the body, understand how moleules bind to form complexes, I even understand how popcorn works. I know all about dinosauers and how they lived millions of years ago, and that according to the Bible the earth is only about 4000 years old.

But there are things that science cannot answer...like how someone in a coma can awaken after months or years; how someone in a car accident that should have died...didn't. There was a story of a small plane pilot who blacked out, yet somehow his plane landed safely.

I know what I believe. It sounds like you are still searching. And (sorry for this) I believe God says "It's ok if you don't believe in Me; I believe in you."

Good luck.

Do you believe you are reading this? Or is it Your imagination. The theories of sound being carried by light are found in the Bible as are the theories of thermo nuclear dynamics in 2nd Peter 3. Christian Scientists looked at the scriptures and proved them out scientifically!

I trust you, i think that some human beings purely want something to have faith in. in ingredient of certainty that maximum human beings save on with in spite of faith their mothers and fathers accompanied. very few human beings turn to faith on their very own. some in line with possibility yet, not many. i grow to be stated catholic and believed till the age of reason. I certainly have consistently stated that if the bible have been a clean e book purely released that no person might have faith it and that it may be interior the delusion fiction component of e book shops. this is not extra available than to think of that Harry Potter grow to be actual. purely because of the fact a e book is old does not advise that what's in it certainly occurred or is actual or certainty. faith has been the reason of extra demise throughout this worldwide than for the different reason. this is all made up and that i think of human beings are purely too embarrassed to admit they have fallen for it. that's a shame fairly. I advise we are interior the twenty first century now, time to stop believing in fairy thoughts. I advise purely like Santa, the Easter bunny, and the enamel Fairy, i finished believing it grow to be actual when I grew up! in line with possibility it fairly is the concern, human beings purely might desire to strengthen up!

Jesus Christ died for me and you so that we may not spend eternity in hell.
The Bible is TRUE and is the word of GOD and was a way for God to speak to us.
The only thing that I can tell you is that since I turned my life to God that my life is so much better I will pray for you that God will speak to your heart. I thought as you did until God changed my life.Thank you God

Of course there are stories in other cultures like ours because God has put in every man knowledge of Him. Even the Eskimos have stories of a great flood.
