Below is some information on Nitroglycerin. No one should take these unless prescribed by a doctor. They are used to treat angina - a type of chest pain when there is not enough blood flowing to the heart.

Nitroglycerin is a vasodilator, a medicine that opens blood vessels to improve blood flow. It is used to treat angina-a type of chest pain-that happens when there is not enough blood flowing to the heart. To improve blood flow to the heart, nitroglycerin opens up (dilates) the arteries in the heart (coronary arteries), which improves symptoms and reduces how hard the heart has to work.

Nitroglycerin tablets are used to decrease angina pain. That is pain the heart can have when one has heart problems. Nitroglycerin can also lower blood pressure when used as a cream or patch

Nitroglycerin extended release capsules are used to prevent chest pain (angina). When used regularly, nitroglycerin can decrease the number and severity of attacks of chest pain from angina and improve your ability to exercise. This medication is called a nitrate. It works by relaxing blood vessels and allowing more blood to flow to the heart.

This medication should not be used to treat angina when it occurs. Use other medications (e.g., sublingual nitroglycerin) to relieve an angina attack as directed by your doctor. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for details.

I believe that nitroglycerin tablets are for heart conditions. I heard they spoil in the light, so people buy little "pill fobs" (small containers to keep that keep the light out) when they have to take them around. Whatever you do, though, don't take the pill.
