Usually (except for Cuba), if there is a US military base in a country, there is some type of agreement that the US would come to the defense of that country. It is a way for a country to "lease US military might. They do not have to pay for it, all they have to do is allow the US to build on their bases in their country.

It's a symbiotic relationship. We lease the land in areas we deem necessary and countries we deem allies. It's a good thing to have bases in regions that could be potential troublespots.
In return, not only do they get the money from the lease but a prospering economy from the money our troops spend in their stores. MOST importantly, it significantly decreases the liklihood that their neighbors will attack them as it also means an attack on the US, which most evil dicatators are smart enough to wish to avoid. North/South Korea is a good example of this. East/West Germany was another good example.
If it weren't for US presence North Korea would have overrun the south decades ago. Similiarly, troops in Germany were well aware, they were merely a "trip wire" if the Warsaw Pact attacked the West, but would bring down the full force of the US military in response (as well as a nuclear WWIII).
West Germans and South Koreans have slept much better since 1950 knowing this as well. The Germans further learned how much economic impact the troops have when George Sr pulled troops out of Germany at their request.

I believe the US maintains some type of military presence in over one hundred twenty five countries throughout the world. In no case are we an occupying force that is unwelcome by the government of each of these country's.
We maintain a presence usually for security purposes. Each US Embassy throughout the world, maintains a Marine Corp security force, normally quite small but with defensive capabilities, in the event our embassy is attacked.
In other country's we maintain air bases, hospitals, ground forces, munitions build up, command centers, and a myriad of activity's we don't know enough about to talk about .

That is possible because the U.S. pays the countries for the right to have U.S. military bases in their country. It comes under the category of 'foreign aid'. Other countries cannot afford to put bases in the U.S. so they have their military personnel based on various U.S. military bases.

We don't have bases here that are solely of another foreign country, but we do have foreign troops on some of our bases that train with some of our units as part of NATO. The last base we were at had a contingent of British soldiers. The one we are at now has Spaniards and Greeks that I have seen so far.

Then look closer. Before I shock you with the truth.
Those installations specifically those in Europe date
back to the cold war. You have troops where they're
supposed to be used and at that time it was Europe.
These days it's the middle east. And now the truth:
Foreign nations do have troops and military bases
in the U.S. Not everywhere but there're quite a few.
I.e. I know for a fact that Germany does basic flying
and combat training in the U.S. So not only do they
have troops here. They also drop bombs lol.

some of the countries we are in is because they are in NATO and the others we are asked to be there..a good example is South Korea, without us they would be over run by the North Koreans. Also some countries we pay them to let us have bases and naval facilities. Also we have treaties with some countries that was worked up to benefits them and us for being there to protect them and also to provided us with a base in areas that we need to be in.

"militia expansionism" what an attractive term thinking maximum bases are regular with the present government with the aid of negotiated treaty to guard problems with user-friendly interest. A base supplies a "massive brother" to the country that helps it, to no longer point out the money it relatively is paid to those countries. Now, nonetheless, I do contend that we could continuously shift back in direction of greater of an isolationist mentality including we held after WWI. Use our women folk and adult adult males individuals to look after our boarders, save money, and permit people who snub the US interior the international get a flavor of it with out us. Granted no longer all we do is robust, yet maximum individuals is.

We pay a lot of money to lease some of those bases, some are through mutual agreements and treaties with host governments.
