I read this a few minutes ago in a religious forum (not this one).

"Proselytization is essential. It is our duty to beat them into submission."

Your thoughts?

I totally disagree with it. We are merely to pray for their salvation. I dont ask that anyone believe the way I do and I dont put down anyone who doesnt believe as I do. Each of us has the right to believe as we choose without being mocked for it.

Nice that someone finally admitted it. But it's a shame their faith is so ridiculous that they have to "beat [us] into submission" to make us believe in it. Sounds an awful lot like the Muslims, doesn't it?
It just reaffirms what I have always believed: Religion isn't about faith, or gods, or meaningfulness. It's about power, control, and wealth, and always will be.

As Christians it is our responsiblity to share the gospel with others. It is what we are supposed to do, and it is what we are commanded to do. but I'm not sure about that whole 'beat them into submission" part of your quote. Could you tell us who the quote is from, and give us the rest of the content so it doesn't seem as silly as it does?

I disagree with that statement. Nobody should be beaten into submission. God would not want someone who did not want to submit; He wants them to want to submit to His authority.

"A religious market economy" of competitive hostilities is not fruitful . "Conversion"by "fire and sword' whether to atheism( as in China,Abania and other Communist countries),Islam or Christianity is counterproductive.

People must come to Christ because they want too, nobody can be forced to believe...

I don't agree with it. Not the Christian attitude I know.

This is why I resist.

That and because... I like to use my brain and exercise my freedom.
