A librarian is NOT necessarily, or even usually, a government employee, as the other responder said. And while 40 hours a week is kind of a national standard for a full time employee, librarians don't necessarily work 40 hours although they'd usually be somewhere close to that. Full time at our local library is 36 hours a week, for example.
The salary shown is probably accurate as a national average, but salaries vary greatly. Many libraries run with little money and can't afford to pay staff what they are worth.
