To have a job title of Librarian, most libraries will require you to have a Masters of Library Science. Additionally, some libraries (mostly academic/university) will require you to have a masters degree in whatever subject you will be a librarian in. For example, if you want to be a law librarian, you will usually need a law degree too; if you want to be a science librarian, you will need a science degree. In most states, if you want to be a school (K-12) librarian, you will also need to have a teaching certificate.

It depends on the size and type of library, but to be a librarian (not an aide) it's common to need a master's degree in library science.
