Citrus repellent: Cut a lemon into quarters and place in a pint jug. Cover the lemon with boiling water and let it steep overnight. Next day you have a flea repellent that you can use in a spray bottle. Spray all over your dog remembering especially behind the ears and around the head generally (careful of eyes), around the base of the tail (once again keep away from delicate bits) and under your dog's `armpits'.
You can also add apple cider vinegar to the dog's drinking water it is suppose to repel fleas.
Natural Repellents and Dips
Use a mixture of Avon Skin-So-Soft, vinegar, and eucalyptus oil as a bug repellent for humans and animals.
Natural flea and tick dip:
2 cups, packed, of fresh rosemary and/or peppermint
1 quart boiling water
4 quarts warm water
Pour the just boiled water over the fresh herbs and let steep, covered, for 30 minutes. Strain and add the liquid to the 4 quarts of warm water and then saturate the animal. Let it air dry.
Flea Spray
spray her with an herbal mixture of:
chamomile
valerian
licorice
witch hazel
Prepare an infusion using one tea bag of each herb, and when it's cold, mix it with witch hazel.
I know most people will tell you to use frontline or K9 Advantix but I do not like putting chemicals on my dogs. I had to put a 2 1/2 yr old dog to sleep because of Advantix (it caused uncontrollable seizures) so I will not use anything on my dogs that say to wash my hands immediately after use (chemicals) if it is not safe for me it is not safe for my dog.

You should have her on either a heartworm preventative, or keep her in the house where she is safer.. Mosquitos can carry heartworm, and that will kill your dog.. You won't need to worry if she is getting eaten alive or if she has a few bumps.. You can mix water with applecider vinegar and spray down the area and the dog.. It's not going to be a great deterrant if you have mosquitos like that tho.. You would need to keep spraying her to keep the mosquitos away... GO to the vet..

Frontline Plus.
The person who said that flys and mosquitos won't bother an animal is way off base. Your dog can pick up serious disease, such as heartworms, from mosquitos. A better solution is eliminate the source of the insects if you can. Keep the area around your home clean, free of animal feces, and free of stagnate water. If you have stagnate water, either dump it or treat it. You can even buy mosquito treatment for large water sources such as ponds. Moving air also helps to keep them away. Buy one of those big commercial fans and position it to blow where your dog sleeps. Citronella also helps, but dogs hate the smell and it has to constantly be replenished.

You have to see what's causing the fly and mosquitoes. Any open wounds? (Flys?) otherwise go to your vet and get Advantix and it covers Fleas, Flea eggs Ticks and Mosquitos and it's good for one month. It goes on between shoulder blades once a month. Otherwise you can go to a vet and ask for Pet Guard Gel it works great! You can use it on horses, cats dogs ect. except humans. Or Skin so soft. Dulited with water in spray bottle.

I have found that Natures Defense horse fly spry works well on the dogs. It is safe to use on them and it smells nice.
It works well for over all control.
If you are having problems with one spot like ear tips SWAT or Flys Off is a cream in a jar that you smaer on.
It will keep the flys off them for a few days and then need to be re applied.
It is safe to use over open wounds as it has antispetic in it and is safe on dogs. It works very well for spot treating small areas.

Front Line Plus from the vet.
Read the box. It also repels flies and mosquitoes and chewing lice. Regular Front Line only kills fleas. The key is the PLUS.

you know that a dog is an animal.. Its your pet but its still just an animal... flies and mosquitoes shouldn't bother it as much as they bother you.
