murder is wrong. that's the definition of murder.
in your example, it would be murder.
you have other choices. you can turn him for one thing. have him arrested.
tell everyone else he's a paedophile. shame him.
embarrass him. get the newpapers to write about him.
do whatever you can to help your child deal with the abuse.
all legal and ethical.
Also, you would have to think could you live with the fact that you killed someone, even if you hated them?
You would have to live with that every day of your life.
Can your conscience deal with murder? Do you want your child to think killing is the way to solve problems? Do you want to help your child, or have them hurt even more?
In your case, it couldn't be seen as an act of self-defense.
It would be done in cold blood.
That's far different, from killing in the heat of passion, say if you walked in on someone abusing your child. And perhaps a struggle ensued with the abuser.
Killing afterwards, when you met a person, would be cold blooded. You ought to have enough self control in those circumstances, to do something else, rather than murdering the person.

Murder is a crime by definition...your example has a parent going out after an abuser of children with the intention of killing him... this murder in the first degree (US law) or Premeditated Murder (UK). its a crime and its wrong.
Lets play with the scenario though, if the parent came home to find an abuser in the act of violating their child, grabbed a statue or fire poker and beat the scum to death in the course of saving the child...
The above would still lead to arrest BUT no court would give the parent a conviction for murder, It would count as either manslaughter due to the parents diminished mental state or self defence (as the parent would be defending not only the child but themselves).
The killing of any human is a very sensitive issue. Do governments murder or execute those on death row? do soldiers murder or uphold the wishes of their nation? Do police murder when they shoot an armed criminal or do they serve and protect?
My opinion is that the act of killing is not a crime in itself but the circumstances surrounding the killing define both the nature of our morality (when we sit in judgement upon it) and whether it qualifies as a crime.

Murder is by definition an unlawful killing so is wrong.
In the circumstances you describe, I might feel enough hate to want to kill the abuser, but I would still be in the wrong if I did.
Just because an action is understandable doesn't make it right.

If it was in self defense of myself or someone else I could cull someone from the herd without a second thought. Just remember if a animal comes in your house its just an animal it doesn't know any better. However, if a man comes into your house he damn well knew the risk when he made that mistake.

Under certain circumstances, I could kill someone without too much remorse.
If any of my family's lives were in danger, then I would do all I had to do, to protect them.
But, regardless of the circumstance, there would always be remorse for taking a life. And I would regret my action for the rest of my life without doubt.

asking if someone thinks murder is wrong is not the same as asking them if they would ever murder someone. I think it's wrong but think I am very capable of killing.

No to murder.
RE: the paedophile bit - it would of course be tempting and God forbid anyone is ever in this position, but i would rather see that person's name publically dragged through the mud, then do everything in my power to ensure they were incarcerated for as long as humanly possible.
