Hell no, it's not possible to win the war on drugs ! All we succeed in doing is filling our jails and prisons with these people. Many of them no longer belong in society! I just wonder how quickly the activity around the Mexican border would subside, if we legalized and taxed drugs.

We can't be our brothers keeper, so if he chooses to ruin his life by becoming a junky, there's really not much we can do to save him. Keeping drugs illegal won't save him ! He knows where to find them if he needs them ! Those people who choose to be junkies are already there, and legalizing drugs will not make it easier or harder for him to continue.

Billions of dollars could be saved by legalizing drugs. Border wars would stop. The flow of money to rogue country's would dry up. Drive by shooting's would stop because that's what they are all about, drugs !

Education is the best preventer of drugs ! Teach our kids the down fall of drugs. Treat drugs the same way we treat alcohol. The same laws that apply to alcohol should apply to drugs.

Dennis Miller (back when he was funny) said: " If you were to manage to take away all the drugs everywhere and make it impossible to get them, people would walk out onto their front lawns and spin in circles until they fell down and saw God. People will always seek release".

The fact is, the war on drugs is targeting the symptom of the problem: The drug supply. If there were no demand, the supply would no longer be lucrative, and the suppliers would get out of the business. To solve any problem, you have to target the root cause. The root causes for drug abuse are many and widespread. They are poverty, unhappiness, boredom, and many others. These things can be helped, but never completely overcome. There will always be suffering, so there will always be a need for people to find release.

In regard to the actual "war on drugs" It's as silly as the "wars" on poverty, illiteracy, terror, etc... They are nothing but political buttons that get pushed on even numbered years.

So, to sum up: No.

In this day and age I think it will be hard to win the war on drugs because so many new ones are being introduced. Some people just never learn, that's the problem.

Yes, it is possible to win the war on drugs.

However, at current setting, it is not possible. The punishments are not severe enough.

I don't think so. As long as you have people wanting drugs there will be no end.

Not as long as people are stupid enough to keep taking drugs.
Next consideration: it is too profitable to quit.
