Are there more christians in this country than atheists or vice versa. I think there are more atheists as Christianity sadly is slowly losing ground as the representing countries fail in their duties to other religions.

People fade in and out of religious phases, there really is no good way to measure the faith of others. Plus, it is a very personal thing that most do not care to discuss, and if provoked, they will push back, hence some of the abuse that you can find in questions and answers. In an unselfish way, we need to worry about ourselves first, then help others who ask. We all just need a bit of guidance once in a while, not everyone needs to be spoon-fed religion.

Most of Europe is down to about 50% believing in God, but in the US, a recent survey showed more than 90% are believers.

Maybe it is decreasing worldwide, but the US is still a very spiritual country as a whole.

As a side note, I considered the term Godophobia for Atheists. Is that close to right? Atheists I've seen on TV and heard on radio seem to be so angry with everything and seem to hate God even though they don't believe in any gods. Doesn't that seem contradictory ?

I call it Godophobia. I may have created a new word. Call Funk & Wagnalls. ;-)

You are assuming that everyone who isn't Christian is an Atheist. Obviously, this can't be true as there are many other religious denominations in this country. And, assuming they have some form of religious belief, then they cannot be deemed to be Atheist.

As for 'representing countries', I have no idea what you are talking about. And I'm sure you don't either.

Before humans, all life was atheist. Thousands, possibly millions, of spirit-beings have been thought into existence, thanked or blamed for natural phenomena, and then forgotten. In a blink of geological time, all current gods, godesses and assorted spooks will be gone - probably to be replaced by even more exotic and unlikely creations to take the credit or blame for everything. And so the cycle will continue. Gods by the truckload will be created, worshipped and then forgotten - assigned to the waste-bin of mythology. All current religions will die out or evolve, to be replaced by new ones, and the followers of those will look back and laugh that we could have been so primitive in the worship of Jesus or Allah.

Well, I don't think the number of atheists are increasing, its the number of people leaving Christianity because its dictating to them how they're relationship with god has to be.

There are very few genuine atheists.....and, sadly, not enough genuine Christians.
My responsibility is not to be critical, however, but to live as near to Him as I can
