Just last night, and throughout the day today, I have had some big time problems with my dog. She is a 9 year-old female, she's a Golden Retriever. She is a bit overweight for her body size.

Symptoms:
-Loss of sight - This is a bit inconsistant. At times she will run into things, but at times she will know where she is going. I have researched this, and have found that cataracts can occur extrememly quick without insulin. ( At times, she can see the color red)
-Lethargic - She doesn't really want to interact with anyone. She will come at times, wanting to be stroked. She basically has just been laying around.
-Loss of appetite - Hasn't eaten anything over the past 1 and a half days. She will drink a bit of water, but I will need to personally give it to her from my hand.

The vets in my area are closed this weekend and have pointed me to an animal hospital and hour away. I want to know if I can wait, and if I can, what do I feed her, do for her, etc.

Thanks for all help!

Maybe you need a cat. A dog is not a good pet.

Get an appointment with a vet soon. I lost my dog to Diabetes because it was too late. The symptoms that your dog is having sound different from our experience, but I wouldn't rule it out. Monitor her urination. If she goes a lot (and I mean a lot.) then that could be Diabetes. But deffinately check with a vet. Good luck.

Why, out of all the possibilities, did you ask about Diabetes? If she is diabetic, it wouldn't have happened that quickly. Signs of diabetes are opposite of what you're describing--she would be drinking, and peeing, like crazy. Your dog is sick. You need to take her to the vet, and not wait until next week. Good luck.

Forget anything you have ever been told about Diabetes.

And get this - it has nothing to do with insulin, exercise, diet or anything else you've heard in the past. It's all based on latest breakthrough research that Big Pharma is going Stir Crazy to hide from you.

Unfortunately these symptoms are not very specific and can be from many illnesses or diseases. At her age, I'd be more inclined to think something more serious. It doesn't sound like you should wait until after the holiday...I'd take her to the emergency hospital if she were mine.

I hope it isn"t something in dire need, doesn"t really sound like. She really must drink water even if she won"t eat.Have you tried a favorite food?I"d say just let her be for awhile and see if things get worse if so then drive the hour I know is hard.Luck with your dog.

I would take her to the hospital if the vet suggested it sounds a little like distemper I would get her looked at just in case. Good luck.
