Don't put it on your resume unless something you were doing during that 6 months applies to the job.

Expect that if you get an interview, they'll ask what you've been doing during that time.

If you do not put it on they will ask. Show on your resume that from June1, 2006 to April 1 2007 you lived in France. and have not worked since returning. This kind of back ground may be good for a position. It is very positive

You can't. But during the interview, you can explain.
It's possible you were not allowed to work overseas
due to the local labor laws. Correct, isn't it?

That said, you could list charity work for that period of time.
Have a good response for the interview.

They'll want to know if you're going to leave, again.

On a recruiting standpoint, you will be asked of any gaps between employment on your application/resume. You might as well disclose it up front since your application/resume will be in the hands of a recruiter before you will.

I would list it exactly as you have just said. You had personal reasoning. You may want to add that you can go into detail.
