No. I'm a Christian, and have never believed this. I have many atheist friends, and can plainly see that they're moral people. I don't equate religion with morality, and feel that they're two separate issues. I am a Christian by belief, but am not perfect, nor can I ever be. Although taught by my religion that I can be forgiven, I still have very much to learn, and am just one sinner among millions with terrible faults and flaws. Who am I better than? Exactly nobody.

Do Christians believe they have higher morals than non believers?
Based on the pure fact that their god forgives them? Does that mean Christians will always be more moral than atheists because they are forgiven and we are not?
I can't speak for Christians, but it seems to me that Christians automatically think that just because one is not a Christian, one cannot have high moral standards or any at all. I am not a Christian but there are things I wouldn't do because of the effect it will have both on me and on others. *I* am the one who will more immediately have to deal with the consequences, so I have live with it. I was actually asked once how I could have any sense of morals and ethics without having a solid Christian background. While I don't endorse Christianity per se, I invoke "the Golden Rule". Incidentally, that is *not* particularly unique to Christianity, if you know where to look.

Morals are not based upon forgiveness. The Judeo-Christian moral system is superior to other systems of morality in that it was given by God in Scripture. Other systems are made up by men (although they do have some natural knowledge of what is right). Obviously God's moral system is superior by a Christian stand point.
This is not to say that the Christian obeys God however, nor are they "more moral" necessarily than you or another, just that the morality of Scripture is in fact superior yes.
I must also say that there are also Christians in the world that will completely reject any concept of morality as is given in Scripture. Not just do they break the Commands of God but they also do not subscribe to it. Their moral code is just as inferior as any other that does not come from God (I would also not call them followers of Christ).

I can't speak for other Christians and only for myself. My answer is no. We're just forgiven for our sins by Jesus Christ, but we are not morally superior in and of ourselves. Atheists are fully capable of making moral and ethical decisions and with leading moral lives. God is the judge, not us Christians. We should show love, tolerance, and compassion towards all people, regardless whether they are believers or nonbelievers. The sun shines and the rain showers on all of us, not just a select few.

no my god will forgive you for not beliving on top of anything else you do wrong just like me and if my god doesn't exist somebody else's god will forgive me and you both (i hope). just because you don't believe in god doesn't mean you don't see that there are other effects to what christians call "morals". Odds are you don't go around killing people either.

Yes, I believe we Christians have, for the most part, higher morals, because we have a higher power to answer to. That is not to say that we ALL have higher morals, or that ALL nonbelievers are immoral, but by and large, that is usually how it shakes out.

Okay, I was not going to respond to this but some one named MAZEY stated that "Non believers don't even have morals"... being that I am not a Christian... I felt a need to address this.
I have very high morals, I do not lie, cheat or steal and I teach my child values and morals through my own actions... not through lifeless words! I teach my child to love because he is loved... I teach my child to share, because I share, I teach my child to be patient, and to be kind... again, through my own actions.
I am not a Christian but I do not pretend either... you'll not find me drunk as a skunk on a bar on Saturday night and smelling of alcohol on Sunday in Church! I don't just find myself MORAL on one day a week(not saying ALL Christians are this way) But instead I am moral every day of the weak.
So please... this question was not directed to the NON believers... it was directed to the Christians... and as such I don't think it was an open invitation to ATTACK those that do not believe the same.
This is like saying that because atheist don't have a religion to follow they are are by default morally corrupt... what a load of crap! I know atheist that are very moral and are full of values... not because of religion... but because of common decency and because it is the RIGHT thing to do... religion aside!
I personally think that someone's religion or spirituality may reinforce their morals... but is not the foundation of them... common decency and half a brain should be where morals are built.
Not to mention... morals also tend to be a part of culture... what is morally correct in one country... a woman wearing a skirt that shows her calves... in the USA is morally indecent in another country such as Isreal where even the barest ankel should not be seen!
Decent morals should be part of society... not religion.

It depends on the person.
My atheist sister-in-law acts far more Christ-like than I do and has high moral standards.
I do believe I have more morality than those who do not have much in the way of standards.

People with high morals do not go around judging others for having differing views like most Christians do.
