Most questions are so boring, stupid, redundant or insipid that we wouldn't bother to answer if we didn't get points that, later, we can spend asking our own boring, stupid, redundant and insipid questions.

It's a matter of being rewarded for one's efforts and some people think that answering questions is hard work. I think it's Yahoo's device for keeping people around. I myself think answers would work very well without the point system but evidently Yahoo thinks that if they don't give out points, everybody will disappear.

I don't know,

Why does it make people feel inferior when someone else has more points than they do ?

It's a quick way to check and see if your gonna get a serious answer or not.

Most of the trolls who just try and stir up trouble, don't stay around long enough, to advance levels.

But, yes, answers would work fine without points.

But, then it works fine with points too.

i think its so important for people to score because some people just have to be better tan everyone else. they just gotta beat every one. Also i don't think it would work without points, how would it work? You just ask as meny Questions as you want and answer questions asked by complete Strangers? whats the point?

We're all just rats in a cage, running the wheel to nowhere. We are a rewards society. Although we get no monetary reward, we have to get to that next level.

That's the only reason for being here..... It certainly isn't the Quality of the questions or answers. (for the most part... there are exceptions of coarse.... like me for example)
