Your TV, if it is an HDTV that can play 720p, can auto detect the source and scale as needed. There is nothing to switch on the TV.

If you do "info" and see 480i, that means that input channel/source is Standard def, 480i; the TV scales it to 720p.

If you have a set-top box, make sure you set it up to output in either 720p or 1080i.

First of all if you need a HD signal and if you do then you should connect it to one of your connectors that accepts HD signals. The problem most likely isn't your TV it is you source. Your source is sending a 480i signal, because when the TV supports a HD signal then it won't be limited to SD. So make your source send out a HD signal, then connect it to one of the connectors that take HD signals, and switch to that input.

Check your remote. There is usually a button on it that will do that. Mine's called aspect, look for that. P.S. I have hitachi 53"
