These religious zealots you speak of are people who are actually starting to think for themselves instead of believing the crap they've been taught since childhood. I see their questions about the dinosaurs as a spiritual awakening. Those of us who have come to terms with the truth should not ever trivialize the seemingly incessant questions from these precious souls awakening from their slumber. Plus, 15 years ago I wanted to know where the freakin' dinosaurs came from and that's what started me on my journey. So be nice.

Why do religious zealots feel the need to dabble in pseudo-science to justify their beliefs?
Because they want to make sense in their talk!

I believe God created everything we have on this planet in six literal days and rested the seventh day - giving us a Sabbath to remember Him as our Creator. He created all animals, but the devil came and brought sin to our planet when Eve was tricked into eating from the test tree. Adam wasn't deceived, but he disobeyed God and ate from the tree, too. The devil, called Satan, is much more intelligent than humans and through cross- breeding he made the huge flesh eating dinosaurs - or fire breathing dragons as they are called.in the Bible. Check out a Bible concordance on "dragons."

I don't know why they go that far? It's embarrassing to me. My ex-wife when we were married and our kids were young, brought home a children's christian book depicting the Dinosaurs being unloaded from Noah's Ark. I threw it out! that's just foolish, you can't rule out the physical world and what we actually know scientifically. I don't mind scientist trying to prove that Biblical events took place... Good luck to them, but I don't want them making up fantasies. To me it's just a matter of Faith and what you personally feel inside! Some people apparently feel plumb silly!

Fundamentalists are usually too busy to study the way you have. The fundies you speak with are either young in their faith, invloved in promoting their organization, or both.
This guy really sums up the state of education in the world;

It is an good attempt at humor, but it also gives us something to think about, in a gentle way.

Do you even know what the term pseudo-science means? Pseudo-science isn't necessary to justify anything, especially a religious belief. Faith is all one needs.

Well, their underpinnings are just *disintegrating*... From Copernicus and Galileo's elimination of a geocentric Universe to Lyell's conclusion that there is no "young Earth" to Darwin's removal of a Deity causing life's diversity to Hubble, Gamow, et al showing natural causes for the Universe, they're up against the wall. ... What "need" remains for any of the "Gods"?
Grasping at pseudo-science is *all* they have left.

Well, when you're afraid of real science, what do you have left? Besides, why should we be surprised when a group of people who cherry-pick their own religion cherry-pick science as well?
Atheists have been accusing Christian fundies of delusional thinking all this time... now it's shocking to us that they're displaying it?
Actually, I guess it is!

It is the "straw man" method of debate.
In short, you misrepresent or misquote the other position and then argue against that.
