I need to resize an image from 10-12 inches, 600 dpi to 16-20, 300 dpi. Which is the best way to do this, change both simultaniously in the "Image Size" dialog box or change image size than reduce dpi. Destined for the printers so it needs to be good. Thanks.

Open the Image size window and change the image to the 20 width and set the resolution to 300 dpi. You may need to crop the height later to make it the dimensions you want (ie.16X20). Photoshop has a constrain proportion option so you may not be able to change the dimensions and resolution in the same step.

There is not much difference in the end result what ever is the order you do it in. You can actually (as it is really not a big margin) let your printer handle it and just set the values there to the right dimensions.

If you have to do it perfectly. Resize, than reset dpi.

Sorry, I'm being a bit dumb and can't fully appreciate your problem. But I suggest you turn off re-sample to keep the same amount of information, ie pixel width and depth. And when you resize smaller use bi-cubic sharper, and when you resize bigger use bi-cubic smoother. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I recommand you to use Google Picasa to manage and edit your pictures.

Picasa is software that helps you instantly find, edit and share all the pictures on your PC. Every time you open Picasa, it automatically locates all your pictures (even ones you forgot you had) and sorts them into visual albums organized by date with folder names you will recognize. You can drag and drop to arrange your albums and make labels to create new groups.

Picasa makes sure your pictures are always organized. Picasa also makes advanced editing simple by putting one-click fixes and powerful effects at your fingertips. And Picasa makes it a snap to share your pictures ¨C you can email, print photos at home, make gift CDs, instantly share via Hello™, and even post pictures on your own blog.

free download in here, just have a try:

Good Luck, Best Wishes!

just keep cropping the image until it is the size you want it, or scroll up or down and it will make the picture bigger or smaller, and then save the altered image. and it should be the last picture in your album where ever you saved it. usually there will be two of the same image afterward, just select the one you want.

Both changes at the same time! ~
If the end file size is the same or smaller, you are in good shape. (And my guess is it will be smaller)
