My puppy sometimes drags his but on the floor as if he's trying to wipe it clean. My father-in-law says that it is because he has worms. Is that true?

This does not actually mean worms and is an old wives tale. It's likely your puppy is trying to express his anal sacs. This is naturally done during defecation but not thoroughly effective all the time.

No, sometimes if the stool is dry it will irritate the pup ***. He is trying to scratch it. Put some antibiotic ointment on his *** for the next 2 weeks and add more water to his diet and preferably some can food. You may mix dry and wet food until you have found a mix that will produce wet stool but with some firmness. Almost similar to a piece of new playdoh.

Dogs rarely scoot with worms. It's almost always the anal sacs are full and the dog can't express them. A vet tech or groomer can do that for you quite easily.

It could be worms that irritate back there or it could be that his anal glands are full. If you see little rice looking things near his anus or in his poop those are tapeworms. Let the Dr know if you see these. Either way take to your vet to check the fecal and while he his back there to express the anal glands.

Just means his butt itches. My dogs have done that when I didn't realize something was stuck, they had bad diarrea or had alergies. The primary sign for worms is a really inflated stomach.

Hi, yes this is a possibility. Have her checked at the vet if this continues. Also check her stool to make sure its regular and there is nothing visible in it.
