I don't know a Vet there, but I work as a Vet Tech in GA.
We see this problem a lot, and it can have many different causes. From a sensitive colon to he ate something he shouldn't have.
Check out this web page, www.carecredit.com
It is a low interest credit card for Vet bills, and your first purchase is interest free.
In any case, take him to the Vet, these things can turn ugly really fast.
Hope he feels better soon.

Mucus is a sign of something going on in the large intestine/colon area. Most commonly it is caused by intestinal parasites, especially whipworms. Or, it can be from colitis, an inflammation in the colon caused by some other irriatation or even diet change. Most vets will give a broad spectrum dewormer as a precaution because some parasites are not easy to detect.
