I am going into the 7th grade this year and all of my friends have cell phones. I have tried to convince my mom and dad so many times and they have still said no. I pretty much have everything else (not to brag) but still no cell phone. should I have one?

Also, I was invovled with very many afterschool actitves last year in the 6th grade and sometimes had to make sure that my mom knew of all changes and new pick-up times. I would never abuse cellphone privialges with carefree text messages and non-stop calling to my friends. I am always very careful to my things and don't leave them lying around either.

okay, last minute. My parents have sprint and if I got a cell phone, it would have to be sprint. Any plans that might work 4 me?

Sounds a though your parents can afford a cell phone for you. I can only relate a story to you of how my grand-daughter (who is your age) got her cell phone on a "trial" basis. After about two weeks, her mother made the comment, "I don't know why we didn't get her one sooner." Your parents would probably reach the same conclusion if they gave you a "trial."

Some phone companies have introduced new plans for kids that will allow them to call certain numbers only and only those numbers, they may or may not allow text messaging.
If you are going to be involved in a lot of after school activities, yes you should have a phone for last minute changes as well as for emergencies and to allow your parents to get in touch with you if they have a change in plans or going to be late picking you up.
Don't be pushy about it,but try to come up with valid reasons to have a phone.
Pay as you go phones are a good option, but you must check out the fine print for hidden fees that will deplete your minutes.

My daughter has had a cell phone for several years now and I love the fact that I can get ahold of her anytime I want. We are on a plan where I pay $50.00 a month and she has unlimited calling and texting 24/7. Maybe your mom should see if she can find a plan like that where you are if she is worried about the cell phone bill.

I believe that depending on why you want the cell phone. If only want the cell phone because your friends all have one. Well then I would have to be completely honest and say that I would say no myself. However if you can present you parents with a good argument on why you should be allowed to have one then do so.
I think you need one because their are a lot things that can go wrong while you are away from your parents. You could misplace your carfare or you could get lost or someone is following you as you walk on your way from school. It would be a good way for your parents to keep track of you and also satisfy your need for a cell phone.

You could ask your parents if you could have one of those cell phones that you pay for say 60 minutes for $25. It would be used strictly for emergencies and it wouldnt hurt if you used your own money (if you have any). With the shortage of pay phones, you really do need to have a cell. I'm a 69 yo grandmother-so your parents cant say some kid told you this.

I'm 20 (nearly 21) and I got my phone in 11th grade but back then not many kids my age had phones... so I was one of the first ones to get a phone and you know what... I didn't really need it! It's kinda useful but essentially it was for my own entertainment. If your parents aren't giving you a phone then you probably don't need one. If you have a special circumstance that requires you to have a phone, then they should get you one. But otherwise no reason to have a phone in 7th grade...

Ever hear of a thing called a pay phone. Make sure you have some coin on you and use a coin operated phone to call your mother in emergencey situations, or use a freinds cell phone in a dire emergency. 7th graders do not need cell phones.

It really depends how responsible you are with it. If all you'd do with it is run up your parents' phone bill without caring, you should wait.
As annoying as it is, the people who probably can make this decision best are your parents. They know better than anyone else how responsible you are and how it will affect you and others (especially them), to have a cell phone.

You are probably old enough to be responsible with a cell phone. But they can be expensive and if you ever go over on your minutes--very expensive. Talk it over with your parents and look into family plans with mobile to mobile where you won't be charged for the minutes you are talking to someone else on the same plan.

Why would a seventh grader need a cellphone? The reason I say this is because they are a distraction in class or the library. I would agree with your folks. I own one for my trailer, and I do carry the phone in the truck, in case of emergency. A seventh grader doesn't need one because if something is going to happen, you can drive anyway..
