Not really. Of course it does seem like wealthier people do play because it started in Scotland (Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden <-- what the name stands for) so it was more of a high class game.

Also the equipment is pricey.

Another reason why it is not like basketball (where poorer people play more) is because you can't go out and just play with your buddies in the street.

No, I am not rich, but I love golfing. I got some clubs on E Bay for about $100, took some lessons, and play at a 9 hole course which is very inexpensive.

hey i am in an average family...
Me my sis and dad all play golf.

Many people think golf is for rich people because way back when early 1900's the only people that could afford to play golf were people who had the money to(rich people). Rich people to poor people....(I think we are all poor at golf lol) can all play golf. Golf is not a game of the rich.

Maybe his fathers generation had that perception and passed it on to him....today, Golf is expensive only if you "have to Have" The newest equipment. and play the really overpriced courses. Otherwise its no more expensive than any other sport. Oh......Golf does not stand for Gentlemen only ladies forbidden.... this phrase is what we call today an urban myth.

no not at all. the best way to play cheap golf is to call your local municiple course and ask when their twilight rates kick in. you can find some very reasonable rates (10-15 bucks) to walk 9 holes usually after 6 pm in the peak season.

It's not about being rich, it's about taking time. I golfed quite a few times last year, and this year so far zilch. I haven't gotten poorer, I've had other things come up to do.

CAN BE EXPENSIVE DEPENDING ON TYPES OF EQUIPTMENT DESIRED/PURCHASED---AND THE GOLF COURSES SELECTED FOR PLAY---GOLF ,GENERALLY, IN THE PAST, HAS BEEN VIEWED AS A "STATUS" GAME PLAYED BY MANY OF THOSE IN THE UPPER MIDDLE S-E STRATA---JUST LIKE "BRIDGE"-a card game, "POLO"=a pony sport.
