Not particularly prestigious - but why should that matter? If it's what you're interested in, and you expect to be able to make a living with it, quit worrying about what non-informed people think. Ignore them.

Well I would be just as impressed!...maybe more so, 'cos anthropologists are hard to come by in everyday life!
I think it's such an interesting as well as important and essential part of society: infact, many branches of 'medicine' and 'engeneering' (as well as many others...historians, geographers, scientists as well psychologists and psychiatrists etc...), have much to thank anthropologists for their theories, discoveries and applications to the general globe of knowledge, advancement and evolution of our human world today.
You're sooooo... lucky to be in that field of study and work! Don't let some 'trendy' tag drag you down...as an anthopologist you have an advantage and you should know that!!!!
Me thinks you mix with the wrong people....

Its not a matter of prestige its a matter of trying to find a job after you graduate. I know several people that are having trouble finding trouble in anthropological careers. They have all moved on due to the job market. I have found it is more beneficial to have a degree in a seperate subject and then supplement with the anthropology minor.

the individuals you talked to about your significant do not recognize the magnitude of anthropology. If it were no longer for anthropologists, we would no longer have chanced on historic civilization or the international's heritage. it really is through their dedication and endurance that all of us recognize different cultures that are latest at present, that we discovered how the individuals contained in the previous lived, that because of their discovery, we've appealing museums and artwork products. certain, this is actual that this occupation isn't as prestigious or as glamorous as the different professions yet, it really is in basic terms as significant and as staggering than the different. if you're fairly in touch or have the coronary heart for it, why hearken to those lot who, of their lack of know-how, might want to be embarrassed about themselves.

If you tell people who are in the business world about your major, they probably won't be too impressed because it's not going to make you any real money and probably will be tough to get a job with that major.
But if it's your passion, and you like getting up every morning and look forward to doing your job, that's really all that matters.
If it doesn't impress them, who cares? As long as your happy and fulfilled.

I'm in college and i've taken an Anthropology course and is was boring as hell. I know every is different, but if you haven't been exposed to Anth. fully.... wait bc it really sucked for me. As prestigious? To each his own. When choosing a career always do what makes you happy bc them you'll perform at your best and who knows.... You might have a breakthrough. That's what i'm hoping for.

I think it's a fine career if that's what you do, but no, I don't think it's anywhere near as prestigious as medicine or engineering.
