First of all. Noone is ever going to remember the names of EVERYONE who died... The thing is that we remember the men and women who have fallen as a whole. We will NEVER forget the men and women who have died for our freedom. We may not know them on a first name basis but we remember them. Another thing... the fallen's family members remember them and will never forget them. You are a jerk. You seriously need help.
Everyone reading this... Go to his profile and read all the questions he has posted. He is a nut case.

I am one the people that do not care who won Idol. I know a lot of people that remember the veterans. As far as the US goes it all falls to the way the schools teach the children. It is more important to show all the bad things "white people" did to everybody else. I will say that the things that happened in the past are not always the greatest things to see but it is the past and if we learned from it then great. I see to many school kids do not know what the American Legion and VFW are. In the 20's, 30's 40's, 50's and into the 60's the local posts were used to do a lot of things for the community but then it was not right to let the kids be around guys that went off to a war. There are so many programs that the Legion and VFW do for school kids if they could get a foot in the door.

It is the reason we have so many days to honor the men and women of the Armed Forces. They are not forgotten there are millions of veterans what won't let that happen we (Veterans) have a motto, "Lest we Forget", and there is the gist of this discussion. Also we have Memorials to the War Dead,Victims of Wars,Victims of terrorism etc., etc. Those that have served always remember their comrades, the life in which we chose to serve our beloved Republic and to shed tears for our friends that have given the ultimate sacrifice. Finally there is a toast of Combat Vets all over the world, "To Absent Comrades". No my friend I agree that some have too short of a memory of our brave fighting men and women but they are never forgotten by those that have served and will pass on to those who don't just what it took to keep our Nation free. May you have a pleasant Memorial Day and Do yourself a favor by placing a flower on a Service Members grave or just say a prayer of thanksgiving for those that never came home. Warchild!

i couldn't tell you who any of the american idol winners are thankfully. i also couldn't tell what soldier, marine, sailor, or airman died on 10 march 1969 either. but i can tell you this i have a grandfather who recieved 2 purple hearts in france in WWII , and dad and several uncles who served with honor in vietnam, and one cousin who was killed in vietnam, i have other reletives who have served in the military, and i am thankful for each and every one of them and there sacrifices. i don't think that not knowing their names is forgetting them. i am sure if you asked most vets they are more concered that we remember what they did as a whole then as indivisuals.
i know i gentleman who was awarded a silver star in korea, and was very humble about it. his main concern when talking about it was that you knew that 5 people died so he could get it, and would gladly trade it to have those lives back. 1 was american and the other 4 were north korean, so trust me he rememered every day for the rest of his life that one americans name and remembered those 4 north korean, even if he never knew their names.

Actually, I can neither tell you the names of the soldiers who were killed (CNN does not list their names), nor can I tell you who won American Idol last week (since I do not watch the program and I do not care one iota for the winners) - but no one will forget that they and others have died. For those who do care - their names can be accessed online.

do you have any idea how many were killed,w/o looking it up of course,on any given day during any war? most people don't. just b/c i may not know the name of a specific soldier killed on a specific day, does not mean i have forgotten about the men and women who laid down there lives for my country. the families of those that have fallen cry for more than a few days too. as do those who served with them. i understand your frustration but please don't assume that we have forgotten. we all remember in our own way.

Well, in all fairness, there are only a few idols, but there are millions of patriots who have given their lives over the years. In America, though, we honor those fallen heroes every year during Memorial day, and no Idol winner ever gets that.

Although there is a certain truth to what you are stating I have to disagree with you. Burke hit the nail right on its head. Young people on the other hand are too busy living to think about death or be grateful of other people's sacrifices...including their parents.
Everyone including myself will be probably having BarBQ's or get together on this Memorial Day celebration.
Nice if we all could remember those fallen so we could celebrate, but then again it is not a perfect world.
Smile and be happy.

It would be impossible to remember every ones name in every war that has ever happened. We may forget some of the names but we view their actions as a whole. We might not remember their individual actions but we remember that they were involved in creating the outcome of the war. Yet, even though we might forget their names we can still go to many memorials such as the Vietnam memorial wall and view the names of the people that sacrificed everything for their country.

I really don't know. My Dad served in WW2. In all Honesty......it was "stories" and Pics. Then when he died.....He was given the 21 gun salute and all the bells and whistles. I, of course was in shock. But I will NEVER FORGET the Young Navy officer who was "assigned" to this :"ritual".
I couldn't describe his face......I watched his snow white, glove colored hands. They folded the flag covering my Dads coffin as if it was the shroud of Christ. Cheap tape player in the background and all. But it was done with reverence and respect. I took that flag.....even imperfect in it's folding....and there's NOTHING I respect more. For all I know it was a guy paid minimum wage to fold a flag and dress-up for the part. Now days....I don't know for sure. But who-ever it was.....you did a great job. My Dad wasn't a big whig. He didn't get honerable mentions for much. But he did get a nice send off and who-ever you were......thank you.
