I am off from work and college this summer until September. A neighbor asked me to help her daughter get from a size 18 to a size 8 over the summer. She offered to pay me $375 a week to help her daughter work out and eat right. If she gets to a size 8 or small from May 28-September 1, I get $2,500 extra in cash.

First, is this possibly for me to help her with? What should her workout schedule be like? Diet Plans? Do you think she could get to a size eight?

The most valuable tip I can offer is to keep a diary. Record the date, what she ate for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and how much she weighs. make sure that she dosn't each too much sugar, as that slows down your metabloism. Since it's summer, aim for 2 hours over excercise each day in an INDOOR gym. It MUST BE INDOOR because of her high risk of heat exhaustion. Overweight children are more at risk of this dangerous condition.

Don't be afraid to add some fun to her excersice routine. I reccomend fun activites such as jumprope, hula-hooping, and races. Reward her with a healthy treat or a long (used for walking) trip to the mall.

I wish you luck! if you have any questions, email me!

wow...they asked you and you don't even know anything about nutrition and fitness? they must be desperate. sorry, i wish someone would ask me that because this is what i do best :)! i mean i'm glad they are seeking help but professionals are the best bet for success. if you honestly don't feel comfortable doing this don't and tell them to find a professional so their daughter doesn't end up getting hurt. the last thing you want to do is hurt or frustrate a person when it comes to weight loss because then they might be opposed to it for the rest of their lives! if you do decide to take the job here's a good place to start:

-walking at a brisk pace for an hour min 3 or 4 times a week (its best if you are with her to make sure she keeps the pace up) after a month of this start having her walk for 15 min, run for 5, walk for 15 min, run for 5 until you hit an hours time. increase run time as she gets better but don't push her too hard! injuries will ruin your progress.

-tell the parents to pick up some free weights at target or walmart...maybe some 2 and 5 pounders to start. 3 days a week have her do a lifting routine (look in fitness or shape magazine for routine ideas!) make sure she is doing enough reps and has a high enough weight to feel the burn but if she complains of joint pain...the weight is too heavy.

- nutrition: have her eat 6 small meals a day (every 2-3 hours) rather than 3 squares. have her drink TONS of water (2-3 liters a day) and eat lots of fruits and veggies (especially when she feels like snacking between feeding sessions.) try to balance her snacks with lean protein, whole grain carbs and healthy fats.

and my very last peice of advice is read up on this before you do it! The Abs Diet for Women by David Zinczenko is a really great source of exercise and nutritional information! it is not a diet...despite the title! it is merely a healthy, balanced method of eating. the proper way, you might say.

Get her to eat a lot veggies and meat, such as white chicken (without the skin), hamburger patties, fish, sirloin steak (amongst other stuff). I started South Beach diet and on SB you can't have hardly any sugary foods, or starchy foods. They teach you to eat the good carbs vs. the bad carbs and good fat vs. bad fat. First 2 weeks I lost about 10-15 pounds.

Stuff I mainly ate was salads (I bought the South Beach dressing, it has a lot less fat than regular dressing), veggies (avoid corn and green peas because they have a lot of sugar in it), meat (boneless chicken breasts, 90% lean hamburger patties), and for breakfast I would have stuff like yogurt, eggs, cereals. And when I wanted to snack on stuff, I'd eat the low carb yogurt, sugar free/fat free pudding and jello, sugar free popsicles.

Basically for most stuff you want it to be sugar free, or fat free. Some stuff can be reduced fat, like I wouldn't ever touch fat free cheese, gross.

I also work out on the elliptical 50 minutes a day. And I do ab work and a sculpting/toning program called Turbo Jam. And I also do weight training. Right now I'm a size 18, but I'm sure in another week or so, I can get down to a 16.

Although with this way out eating, if you don't maintain it.. she could pack the pounds back on, because it's considered a low carb/low fat WOE.. and the second she reintroduces the bad carbs back into her diet, she'll gain it all back.

K, well that girl is really over weight, or she is trying to get uunderweight. I really dont know what kind of exercises she could do other than like running, crunches, just regular. But, for her food plan if I were u, try to get her to eat a salad, or something healthy in EVERY DAY. Other than that, I dont know what to say. GL.

HELLO SHILOH,

THE MONEY WOULD BE BETTER SPENT ON A NUTRITIONIST AND A PHYSICAL TRAINER.
UNLESS YOU HAVE THE RIGHT KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING, IT'S A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.
