Saturday night television is boring because the networks have largely given up programming the night. It wasn't always the case. But the economics of the situation with so many people gone out, playing video games or whatever dictate that Saturday night be a virtual wasteland since it costs so much to produce shows. Episodes that can be produced relatively cheaply like 48 Hours or putting on a football game as ABC does in the fall are a welcome, if insufficent antidote to the problem you cogently raise.
Best wishes!

Doctor Who is the biggest offender of all don't go there...Natural World was on at 6.30, that was interesting...Seven Ages of Rock, fantastic documentary at 9...and then for a late night film there was either Training Day or Apocalypse Now! try being a bit more cultured and adventurous? Doctor Who is tiresome, generic and worst of all lacks irony; it's really not relevent.
That being said: there is an inherent problem with weekend telly. I don't think the broadcasters really know what people want, so they play it safe with cosy, family friendly stuff. Sick to death of Graham 'Did You Know I'm Gay?' Norton (who hasn't been funny since V Graham Norton), Bruce Forsyth (aww, isn't he a treasure?) and whatever bimbo is playing off them this week. All these talent shows are tacky and contrived - most of them have professionals in them. ITV has given up trying, fair play to them. Channel 4 should stop doing list shows and do more documentaries, only ones that don't cast a bleak outlook (after all, it is Saturday).

HAHAH! I think so too! Saturday night has been the lowest rated night on TV for a loooooonngg time. Networks don't try because simply, no one is home to watch TV. The only way to get the viewers on saturday is to move a HUGE hit to it.

Yep. That and Friday night's too. The worst two night's TV of the week. And with Lost & Desperate Housewives also finishing soon, it's gonna get even worse!

Doctor Who Confidential is on BBC3 directly after Doctor Who is shown on BBC1. That's not boring. It certainly does get boring after that though.
The thing is - I can't think of many programmes that wouldn't be a bit of an anti-climax after DW and DWC. Especially considering how great recent episodes have been.

You would think that the weekend TV would be something to look forward to but the TV companies seem to think we all go out at the weekend so they don't entertain us, it's been like this for years now
